I found a lump in throat had scan then biopsy and was told it was benign, at my first consultation the consultant said if that turns out to be the case as it was not causing me problems he would periodical monitor it while I got on with my life. At the next consultation he told me better to have a full thyroidectomy. Should I be worried, I ask because when I had pre opp assessment they found my heart was in AF and cancelled op until this was dealt with. That was two months ago and the treatment I have for A F so far has not worked. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Mick, do you have any thyroid test results you could post?
Hi Greybeared, No l don’t they would be with the hospital I suppose? I have checked if my GP had results but they said no although they are in the process of being moved to another health care provider and looking in from outside things appear pretty chaotic. Although to be fair when the lump first appeared they referred Me to hospital under the two week first appointment possible cancer guidelines. In truth I have been concentrating on pushing the hospital to treat my AF after cardioversion op failed, but as the weeks have gone by the thyroid stuff has begun to nag at me. The problem is I am unsure of what to do.
Hi Mick, the way most of us think is that if the thyroid needs to be removed it must be the last option not something that is done for their convenience. Once your thyroid is removed you will be reliant on thyroid replacement medication and that can be difficult to get just right.
