I've not read the article (saw Medical Medium and stopped reading), but Dr Peatfield mentions EBV in his book Your Thyroid and How to Keep It Healthy. EBV causes glandular fever and Dr P says that about 30% of his patients give a history of glandular fever some time before they became ill with their thyroid problem.

Thanks for this. i will try to purchase both books and evaluate more. Thyroid is still new to me, and having a nodule really scares me altho chances are it might be nothing.

I would guess my Hashi’s is due to a very long and severe bout of GF 20 yrs ago as I know there is a link. The reading is a very interesting and plausible slant on the root cause, however I do believe there are a significant number of people who have Hashi’s and have never had GF or any trace of the Epstein Barr virus in their tissue or blood.

This is a complex subject. In some people, poor thyroid function, viral infection, and other autoimmune disease may all be interlinked. Other viruses are also implicated in the development of thyroid disease, but bear in mind that pre-existing Hashi's or hypo will also make you more susceptible in the first place. This is a chicken-egg situation, I'm afraid.

A good website written by a UK doctor, which considers all these different factors in chronic autoimmune ill-health:

Thank you so much for your thoughts on this and the link :)

Mhrmzi,

I really would NOT take any medical advice published in Goop. They publish the most extraordinary and sometimes dangerous stuff along with woo-woo nonsense from a medical spiritualist who claims to cure everything from warts to cancer.

Thank you so much again clutter.. u really have helped me a lot in learning about my newly found condition. I think im better off buying a good rated book from reliable authors. But then again that book (medium something i forgot already ha!) has tons of good reviews on amazon its so easy to get sucked in and confused... So sooo glad i ask around before believing something blindly. Thanks again.
