Frequent urination and Graves?

Hello, could frequent urination be one of the symptoms of Graves’ disease? I came across it on some pages but my husband’s endo said this isn’t the symptom. I’m now concerned what this symptom is related to. Any similar experiences?

Hi, I have hyperthyroidism (mild graves) and I have noticed increase in urination especially in the morning and on bad days. So some days are better than others (I counted 13 times before 11 o’clock one time!). When I was first Ill I had to walk around with a flask of water as i had a constant need to drink that has subsided now but I still urinate a lot in the morning. I have read on line it is a symptom I don’t think endos are aware of all of the symptoms I have also suffered with dizziness which they told me wasn’t to do with my thyroid but speaking to others it does and I asked my endo if all his patients were well when their thyroid levels were in ‘normal range’ he said yes!!!! Slightly worrying huh when it’s their specialised area. 😬 hope this helps I guess it will settle down when we are more balanced.

Thank you Lisa, it is reassuring to hear other people experiences as I don’t trust the doctors now at all. Looks like my husband has been ignored for years and got himself to a bad stage now. I guess knowledge is power so we will keep educating ourselves whilst working with endos.

I’m sorry to hear that I hope he gets back to good health soon once the right balance of meds are working!

I have looked into ‘well being approach’ I have seen a nutritionist and now gluten and soya free (im not allergic) I have accupunture and use meditation and yoga too and I have seen an improvement whether its because of this or just the meds who knows!! I’m the same I feel my trust in I would probably say endocrinologist is very low as I don’t feel they know enough about their supposedly specialised subject they need to stop looking at figures on a page and look at the person sitting in front of them and learn the symptoms. This site is great though I’m always asking questions so ask away 😊

Kari55,

I think it can be but as your husband's endo says not ask your husband's GP to do a HbA1c blood test to check for diabetes.

These are typical hyperthyroid symptoms thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Thanks Clutter. Would HbA1c need to be a fasting blood?

Kari55,

I think so. Check with your GP.

HbA1c is for diabetes. It doesn’t have to be a fasting blood test because as it is based on how your bloods have been over the last three months or so so it doesn’t make any difference whether you fast or not. I never fast when I have mine. I had my last HbA1c done by fingerprick with Blue Horizons.
