my itches

seems my itches are caused by carbs, mainly bread,

went to see a nurse on thursday who happened to be a diabetes nurse, she went through my notes and had a look at hands and feet and said she can see no reason other than diabetes being the cause,

i went on a diabetes page and they said if i stop the carbs it will stop

anyway had a roll yesterday and bugger me if within 20 minutes my hand was itching so badly

she told me tonnes of moisturizer will help

ive had antibiotics, hand wash/cream, steroid creams (which i hate using due to history of high cortisol) and none of its helped, antihistamines help for a short while but when that itch starts its a killer

so now to cut out bread completely and see how i react to other carbs....i know they are bad and when i eat them it does have a huge impact on me

I did ask my dr a few weeks ago if it was related to diabetes and she said no because my levels were in range, another case of your fine because your levels are fine

im due bloods soon for thyroid so will get them to run a few more tests to see if anything shows up

We could do with a thyroid nurse in every surgery too. They might have useful advice like your diabetes nurse has and look at symptoms not just blood tests.

dont always work that way

one of the drs i see is hypo herself and on 175mcg thyroxine

when i was first diagnosed i was at the drs 3 times a week thinking i was dying and swearing blind the thyroxine wasnt agreeing with me, the dr said 'im on 175mcg daily and ive never been ill so its not the thyroxine'

the breathing nurse had her thyroid removed and when i went to see her with bad shortness of breath she told me she was on thyroxine with no thyroid and never had shortness of breath

we are doomed

One mans medicine is another mans poison!! One size does not fit all and we are all different, so because they are so-called medical professionals then they must be right Mandy!! NOT!👎

Maybe you are wheat intolerant.

I'm sensitive to wheat and oats. A friend offered me a flapjack after I'd given them up for a while, so I thought I would try it. Within a couple of hours my hands were swollen, hot and throbbing, which had been a previous symptom.

Have you tried going gluten free?

ive eaten a lot of bread lately i know i shouldnt but hubbys mum makes the best rolls for his lunch that i just cant resist when he brings one home for me

so for now im just laying off the bread and as soon as my hand clears up will be keeping a food diary so i can see what else i react too

Many, like myself had absolutely no symptoms but we are still gluten intolerant

Over 80% with Hashimoto's are better off gluten free according to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist

Ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Persistent low vitamins with supplements suggests coeliac disease or gluten intolerance

Years ago (1980s) my work colleague found out she was gluten intolerant/coeliac - her symptoms were hands & arms itching - luckily she was diagnosed quickly as her hubby was a GP, a lovely chap unfortunately not my GP J :D

Mandy72,

Have you had a coeliac screen to see whether you are allergic to gluten?

Jazzw profile image
Jazzw in reply toClutter

Because the itch could be dermatitis herpetiformis?

Maybe worth a look, Mandy?

i seen the nurse today about smoking and asked her if i need to see a dr before having blood tests done or could i giver her a list of what i need doing, she said take a list and we will go from there

i then asked about itchy hands and feet with gluten and she said she will add it to the bloods next week as apparently hand, feet and under breasts can itch

ive had itching under my breasts many times before and never though anything of it other than me being on the bigger side

Mandy72,

You need to continue eating normal amounts of gluten in 2 meals daily until after the coeliac blood screen or the result will be skewed.
