will 4t4 23 and TSH 0.1 be cause of my weight loss?

i was thyrotoxic,i had my thyroid knocked out years ago and now take thyroxine 200 mcg to keep stabilized i'm 50 yo male and am 14.5 stone. i have been having a diet that contains 4000 calories daily to stop my weight going under 14 stone, because under 14 stone i look gaunt and terrible and i have also been having weird heart palpitations which i forgot to mention to the practice nurse. could the thyroid levels above be causing the weight loss and palpitations? i have just seen a practice nurse and not a GP and she said that i do not need to reduce my thyroxine, should i reduce and if so by how much to stop these symptoms? i know i should see my GP, but its almost impossible to get an appointment and the GP in the past only seems to guess at what to reduce or increase dose by. would it be dangerous to cut dose in half considering 200 mcg is quite a high dose anyway?

please advise.

Hi we need to have the ranges for your blood test results, they are the figures in brackets after the result to be able to see if you are over medicated. You really should go and see your gp if your having palpations and losing weight it could be you are over medicated but not a good idea to drop meds by half as this could cause you to go hypo.if you really want to drop dose yourself I would just try 25 mcg less and see how you feel, obviously it will take six weeks for full benefits to be felt but you should notice some difference after a couple of weeks.

thanks for that, you've given me answers there that i was going to ask!

i always like to overdo it so i'm going to cut by 50 mcg given that i should feel the benefits within a couple of weeks.

the ranges PMOL-L 10.3 20.0.

would it do any harm to stop medication for like 3 days to kick-start things?

thanks a million.

Yes you can leave off thyroxine for 3 days if you want it might help speed up washing out the t4 from your system. Looking at your t4 range it does seem like you are slightly over medicated as t4 is over range, shame you haven't got a result for t3 as that's the most important one.i would still recommend only reducing your levo by 25 mcg as it might be rather a shock to the system to reduce by 50mcg in one go.

thank you, what type of shock would result from reducing by 50mcg as oppose to 25mcg?

Hi, sorry for delay in answer I'm decorating hall at the moment. What I mean by shock to system is you could we'll get hypo symptoms come back always best to do small changes to meds as you could end up yo yo between hyper symptoms and hypo symptoms not good for your body and not very pleasant for you. Everything takes time with the thyroid unfortunately.
