Hello, I'm new here. Diagnosed with Hypothyroid just over 2 years ago. Currently taking 75mg Levothyroxine. Be very grateful for advice on what level/s of supplements to take - I can see from my results I need to start taking them but not sure where to start?? Many thanks for taking the time out to read my post.

Your GP should be dealing with your folate deficiency and your Vit D Deficiency, you should show him these results and ask for appropriate treatment.

For the Vit D Deficiency you need loading doses according to NICE Clinical Knowledge Summary cks.nice.org.uk/vitamin-d-d... Do not accept a prescription for 800iu, it needs to be the loading doses.

Also, as your ferritin is so low ask for an iron panel and full blood count to see if you have iron deficiency anaemia.

You can raise ferritin by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week.

Your thyroid results don't appear to be optimal, FT4 and FT3 are low in range. How do you feel?

Your TPO antibodies are raised. Did you know that means you have autoimmune thyroiditis aka Hashimoto's? Adopting a strict gluten free diet and supplementing with selenium L-selenomethionine 200mcg daily an help reduce antibodies, as can keeping TSH suppressed.

Welcome to the forum, Lull33.

You could probably do with 75mcg/100mcg Levothyroxine alternate days to raise FT4 and FT3 which are low in range. The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.27 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email dionne.fulcher@thyroiduk.org if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

B12 485 is unlikely to be deficient.

Folate is deficient. Ask GP to prescribe 5mg folic acid for 2-3 months. Folate and B12 are synergistic so B12 won't work properly when folate is deficient.

Ferritin is optimal halfway through range. You can raise ferritin by supplementing iron with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation. Iron should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

CRP is an inflammation marker so a low result is good.

Vit D is deficient. Your GP should refer to local guidelines or the cks.nice.org.uk/vitamin-d-d... Do NOT accept a prescription for 800iu which is a maintenance dose prescribed after vitD is replete >75. My GP prescribed 40,000iu daily x 14 followed by 2,000iu daily x 8 weeks which raised vitD from <10 to 107. Vitamin D should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

SeasideSusie and Clutter - many thanks for your feedback.

Folate/Vitamin D/Ferritin- results will be shown to my GP next week. I will email for a copy of the Pulse article as Clutter suggests.

SeasideSusie - it's difficult sometimes to say how you feel when you're used to feeling tired all the time as if feeling tired all the time is 'normal.' I lack energy most days and walk around in a brain fog most of the time. When my tablets were increased from 50 to 75mcgs about 8 months ago I had a week or so where I felt really well..I remember crying and thinking 'I'm back'...but this was short-lived...A false sense of wellness?

I think it's a good suggestion from Clutter about taking 75mcg/100mcg alternate days and seeing if that helps.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

Keep up the good work!!!
