Tsh

I am currently on 112mcg Synthroid and tsh is 1.4 (.8 - 4.5). But my ft3 is not where I want it, it’s 3.2 (2.3 - 4.2), my ft4 is 1.2 (.8 - 1.8).

If I add 12mcg of Synthroid to my current dose of 112mcg Synthroid, will my tsh likely fall below 1.0? I just don’t want it to go too much below 1.0, because that is where I feel best.

Thank yo

It's not the level of TSH that makes your feel anything. It's the FT3 level. T3 too low or too high causes symptoms. TSH has no influence on how you feel.

Eshep,

When your TSH has been 1.0 what has your FT3 been?

3.5- 3.7

I’m hoping the slight increase my bring it up just a bit. Do you think by going up 12mcg I won’t miss this spot?

Eshep,

12mcg should be enough to get you around 3.5-3.7.

I also worry that a 12mcg increase will bring my ft4 too much and cause high rt3.

Eshep,

It will raise FT4 but 12mcg is such a low dose I doubt it will take it over range. You won't know what rT3 is unless you have a rT3 blood test.

Hi Eshep. You're talking about numbers, but how do you feel? Sometimes how you are feeling is more important than numbers as long as you're in range. For example, if I go under 2 for TSH I start having severe hyper symptoms and that is more miserable than anything that I've been through. And lab values can change day to day, week to week depending on so many factors...
