I used to but I'd suggest you have your FT4 and FT3 tested as you may not be on a sufficient dose of thyroid hormones and it is T3 which is required in all of our T3 receptor cells. It is the Active thyroid hormone.

Maybe you should have a new blood test to check your thyroid hormones. You may need a rise in dose.

Important to test your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Your previous post says you suspected you were pregnant.

Was your Levo dose increased to help with increased demands of pregnancy and are your thyroid levels being regularly monitored

I get severe thigh cramps. I didn’t used to, it was always just my calf and it was easily dealt with by putting my foot on the floor and standing up - it usually happened when I was in bed.

For the last six months or so I’ve been getting cramp in my thigh and over the top of my ankle which is really pa8nful and not so easy to get rid of. It is incredibly pa8nful at the time although it doesn’t hurt afterwards whereas my calf cramps would still be really painful when I got up in the morning.

I’m in remission from Graves and not taking any thyroid drugs. As far as I’m aware all my vitamins and minerals are optimal so I haven’t a clue what has caused the thigh cramps to start. It is a very strange and unpleasant place to get cramps and I’ve not come across anyone else who has had them so you have my sympathy. I’ve been taking Voost magnesium tablets and they seem to help but it could just be a coincidence.

Thanks, for all the replies.

My doc insists on only checking TSH and T4 regularly....

I believe folate, ferritin and B12 were ok when last tested (over year ago) - and 'ok' was according to GP...He said that the lab won't test for Vit D even if he requests it?

Levels were:

B12 341

Folate 12.8

Ferritin 113

I was pregnant, but miscarried at 12 weeks in October. When I found out I was pregnant my dose increased by 50 every other day. After miscarriage I am now back on regular 150/day.

My levels were:

TSH T4

Pre-preg 0.2 14

5 weeks 1.8 14

10 weeks 0.1 17

December 0.09 17

Thigh cramps are horrendous aren't they? Worse than childbirth!

I am now seeing a physio who thinks it is my adductors under strain due to other muscles around hip not doing their job.....but its on my mind constantly, I worry all day until I eventually fall asleep about what position my legs are in and if it is going to happen again.

Sorry to hear you had miscarriage

Get your vitamin D tested privately - though GP should do it annually with Hashimoto's

If you want to test your vitamin C there’s a link on the TUK website for City Assays in Birmingham(?) you pay by phone and they send you a card where you put a spot of blood on each space then you post it back to them. I’ve been getting mine done with Blue Horizons Thyroid 11 - mainly because I’ve been keeping an eye on my thyroid antibodies since I went completely gluten free a few years ago (the antibodies have plummeted! )

I couldn’t get either my endo or my GP to test my vitamin D. One endo I saw did say ‘all this stuff about vitamin D was fashionable and if I could bring him evidence there was anything in it he’d test my vitamin D’, couldn’t get my T3 tested either. So in the end I discovered Blue Horizons and gave up on my doctors. It’s not cheap but it’s worth the money.
