I was newly diagnosed with Hashimoto, and I am still not taking any hormone medicine for the thyroid. My gland is swollen. Recently I´ve got a terrible pharyngitis, but I am afraid antibiotics are gonna cause my disease to worse. What experience do you have with that? I´d appreciate some advice, if possible...
What about Hashimoto and antibiotics? - Thyroid UK
What about Hashimoto and antibiotics?
In my opinion I would take the antibiotics. You might find that the gland becomes less swollen as well as improving your throat.
I don't see that antibiotics would make any difference to Hashimotos.
Do you have your blood test results? If you are in the UK you are entitled to have them - tell the surgery that it's for your own records and you would like a printed copy. Then post them here for further advice.
Hi Crisstine
I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s by a private Endocrinologist, but he would not give me any medication as I improved my TSH going gluten free.
I still feel absolutely rotten, anyway I ended up seeing a nutritionist and had a stool sample.
It showed I had a number of bacteria infections in my gut. My nutritionist recommended a course of antibiotics which my GP agreed to (metronidazole).
They made me physically sick for a few days and then my throat felt swollen for a few days so much so that it felt like I had a piece of food stuck, but I persuade with them.
My symptoms of Hashimoto’s have reappeared again, stiffness in my neck big time, stiffness in my fingers, freezing cold.
Have they prescribed them for Hashimoto’s or Epstein-Barr Virus?
As when I tested positive for Epstein-Barr I was put on anti virus tablets, not antibiotics.
Best wishes
