Does anyone who is hypo find a hard time tolerating iodine rich food??
All of a sudden I cannot tolerate shellfish. Could be an allergy but wondering as of the high iodine value it could be related. As everything with the thyroid seems to be!!!
Thanks

Or it could be histamine intolerance? What reactions do you get from eating shellfish?
Recently I developed facial flushing and itching, red hands after handling and eating prawns. I've eaten them for years without problems. I find I'm reacting to high histamine foods, shellfish are particularly problematic.
How long after eating do you have the reaction? Were they fresh or frozen ones thawed and reheated? Be sure to rule out any food poisoning. Intolerance can show up many hours later when the food is in the digestive tract, and causes a reaction.
Sounds far more like intolerance, then. Unfortunately it can come on suddenly when you've been previously OK with certain foods. The best way to figure out whether it's histamine intolerance is to look into the other food you're eating, perhaps you have a diet high in histamine, without realising it. Here's an article to explain it better:
If it helps I think it is quite common to develop a shellfish allergy in adulthood (anecdotally I know a lot of people - myself included - who suddenly became allergic in middle age). I'm allergic to crustacea but not bivalves. You may find one is a problem but not the other.
