As you've consulted the doctor about your itchy skin and they did not tell you to go to the hospital then it sounds like an ongoing problem rather than acute shock caused by one of the fillers in levothyroxine.
Hypothyroidism can cause dry skin. Do you know if your medication is sufficient according to latest blood tests?
Take an antihistamine tablet an hour before Levothyroxine. If itching is relieved it was likely caused by a reaction to one of the fillers in the Levothyroxine brand you are using and you should ask your pharmacist for an alternative make when your prescription is dispensed. There are 4 makes of Levothyroxine in the UK:
Mercury Pharma 25mcg, 50mcg & 100mcg
Actavis (also known as Almus & NorthStarr) 50mcg & 100mcg
Il have a bash at mercury again, I have to brace as the pharmacists say I'm the only one with reaction from teva if the case
Re the doctor thanks for reply nanedake
She didn't e en think about the levo, she just said I'm scratching too much as if this was the cause, only yesterday I queried the levo myself, it hadn't crossed my mind as I was thinking I had shingles at the time esp as grandson has finished with chickenpox lately xx
Then I wondered if it's from my cat!!! He's due his flea thingy
Horrid thought I know
It's definately excema like as in the elbow creases now, it may go as it came, yes I'm still taking the levo but only low u til I know my adrenals are ok, I've a lot of the fatigued adrenal symptoms and going with the theory it doesn't help tolerate levo of adrenals fatigued, I e felt really rotten on even 50 levo, I've really persevered, doc pest does not recommend younpush through if adrenals are low and this makes sense to me entirely so going with this, I know I've been over stressed for years now and just want to look after the adrenals obviously, it smoked have been done years ago I can see this now, it depends on our history I guess x
Do try taking an antistamine an hour before Levothyroxine for a week or two to see whether itching relieves.
You may be the only person your pharmacist knows with a poor reaction to Teva but numerous members have had problems and have filed yellow card reports. If it transpires Teve is causing the itching then do file a report yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/
I'm really not sure two high cortisol results out of 4 or 6 indicates stressed adrenals but as I said I don't know much about cortisol/adrenals.
The two are significantly high OVER the range clutter, I do need to understand more it's so frustrating and especially as one is at bedtime when I have chilled for two hours or more!!
But I've been on I pad which they say is really bad and not to do,it for a couple of hours before bedtime
I've read up today on sropthethyroidmadness about this sea sawing stress but it doesn't give much advice unfortunately
Medichecks have reminded me I should retest cortisol and that they have a more significant test now,
I'm not prepared to take any chances and tax my adrenals should it be true that the levo does this - my system is sensitive, you don't here if worsening depression and anxiety on 25 or 50 as the norm as it's starting dose I keep reading and dr Peatfield says you shouldnt push through it, I did try for a few weeks ( can't do it any more I'm done)
