Saliva Test Results - Potentially Low Cortisol?

All, I wonder what you would say about these saliva cortisol results? My AM cortisol looks ok, but then it goes downhill after that and each result is borderline low. Would you treat this with hydrocortisone? I plan to ask my holistic doctor on Tuesday but was curious as to your responses. Thank you.

6 AM: 5.3 (range 3.7 - 9.5)

11 AM: 1.3 (range 1.2 - 3.0)

5 PM: 0.7 (range 0.6 - 1.9)

10 PM: 0.5 (range 0.4 - 1.0)

Your 6 am cortisol is a bit low, too, but I don't think it warrants taking HC. HC is not something to take lightly. It can lower potassium and cause horrendous water retention. It would be far better to just support your adrenals so that they can work better:

* Try an adrenal glandular - as long as it doesn't contain anything other than dried adrenal. I would avoid adaptogens, if I were you because they tend to downgrade hormone levels, rather than upgrade.

* Up your vit C intake - and how is your B12? Adrenals need lots of B vits, but you need to get your B12 and folate tested before taking any supplements.

* Makes sure you get enough salt - try and adrenal cocktail, plenty of recipes on the net.

* Have a high protein breakfast as soon as you rise.

* Make sure your FT3 is at a decent level.

Thanks Greygoose for this info. I don’t know much about HC so I will do some googling. My b12 and folate are both normal (b12 was 687 and folate over 20). I will make sure the FT3 is decent enough as it’s still low.

OK, but you could still take a B complex for your adrenals. Best to get one with methylcobalamin and methylfolate, rather than cyanocobalamin and folic acid.

Yes definitely I plan to start supplementing. I want to ask the holistic doctor tomorrow exactly what I should take. I will post the results of the discussion here in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation.

Greygoose you were pretty spot on with your recommendations. The holistic doc said to get the FT3 up and added T3, plus some adrenal glandular, and also said I needed to add salt to my water. Are you secretly a doctor?! :)

Replying to my own discussion to keep the info out there. My new holistic MD said that my adrenals are definitely fatigued and she added a bovine based adrenal supplement made by RLC Labs. She also added T3, just 5 mcg to be taken twice a day. Hopefully this will be the final end all be all and my symptoms will abate!
