For BadHare who asked how my kefir-making was going: Yay! Happy grains in organic whole milk, have now had two small glasses of kefir from them (one yesterday and one today). As I've not had it before I don't know what it's supposed to taste like, but it is drinkable. I was worried my house might not be warm enough as I don't have the heating on all day, but it seems to be okay. So far so good!
Thanks also to Mikegov and others who recommended trying kefir.

Help I don't know if my kefir is alive or working it's been 18 hrs and I don't see a difference at all. I have placed in dark larder with jam jar cloth over but nothing occurring.. could I have killed it already ?
Hi Splotchy. I'm not a huge expert, but when I first started the first few batches didn't show any visible change, but when I tasted it you could tell something had happened as the milk had a bit of a tang to it. So I would advise you to strain it and drink some to see! As you do more batches, the grains grow and have more effect and you soon start to see more visible changes. Good luck.
I've just started making water kefir (thanks to Poppy_the_cat ) and my first bottle will be ready to drink today. I've had a few sneaky tastes each time I decant it and I love the taste!
I changed from milk kefir to water kefir a few weeks ago, also thanks to poppythecat ! I found the milk version a bit unpleasant to drink but am getting on better with water kefir. Enjoy!
I've just realised your post was 3 months old! I'm trying to cut right down on dairy so never tried the milk version. Then Poppy posted about it and sent me the instructions. When I wailed that I couldn't follow them due to brain fog, she worked out I lived only a few miles away and very kindly invited me round to watch it being made
Yes it was. I was nosy and took a quick look at the other poppythecat's profile page and she hasn't made any posts. I'm cat mad, you can never have two many cats lol!
I tried getting another cat for company for the little madam in my profile pic. She hated him with a vengeance! She only cheered up again when he got run over She's now back to being Solo Cat Who Rules The Roost! LOL.
How do you do that little cat pic? It's as much as I can do to work out how to post a wink on this forum lol
They do like to be in charge, don't they!! Including being in charge of us, of course...
The little cat emoji is found on my phone keyboard when I tap on the smiley face for emojis and then swipe through them til I come to a whole section of cats, eg 😺😸😽🙀🐱🐈. Is that enough cats for you?! Think I might need to add a pic of my Jemma as my profile pic now ☺️.
Yes, she is - black and white, with a white neck and chest, a thin white stripe down her tummy, and then more white fluffiness lower down - and distinctive asymmetric face markings. Gorgeous in my eyes of course!!
