Hi all i was going to get my next lot of bloods done today as i had my last lot taken 4 weeks ago, endo started me on titration dose of 10mgs of carbimazole instead of 20mgs 10 days ago, i was just wandering should i try and wait until next week so new dose gives a clearer picture how meds are working or go this week as it wont make any difference as i read somewhere you should wait at least 4 weeks to retest on new meds? Help. Thankyou.

Those who have knowledge about carbimazole will respond when they read your post.

I was treated with carbimazole but I was on block and replace so I can’t really help you.

If it’s any help to you when I started I was to take 20mcg for four weeks then have a blood test. Things didn’t move enough after the four weeks so I got a letter from my endo telling me to double the carbimazole so it looks like carbimazole might not work all that fast, I don’t know. What happens probably depends a lot on the half life of carbimazole but I can’t remember what that is.

What about contacting your doctor or endo and asking if they want you to give the change of dose a few more weeks to see what difference the reduction is making or if they want you to be tested now as was planned then again after a few weeks when your new dose has had a chance to work.

Hi fruitand nut carbi has a life of 6 to 8 hrs., my gp is useless and they do not give advice and leave that to the endo. I did contact endo office today but he was busy. Just thought being i have only started new dose perhaps i havent give it enough time for new dose to work as when 1st started carbi it took a good 7 weeks for a slight improvement. I think i may stretch out till next weekend and see from there. I havey thyroid scan tomorrow at last!!

I readvon orher pists of doing testsevery 4 weeks when you are on a new dose but some people notice the change within 2vweeks.x

Good luck with the scan 😊

If you can get blood tests quite easily and you’re ok about having them then you could just go as scheduled then have another one in four weeks.
