If you've gained a lot of weight you have to have a new test for your thyroid hormones. It sounds as if you are not on an optimum dose.

The test has to be at the very earliest possible, fasting (you can drink water) and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test and take afterwards.

Ask for TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Get a print-out with the ranges and post for comments.

Well, aren't they the same thing? Low T3 can do terrible things to our brains, and cause all sorts of symptoms that could be classed as 'mental', like depression, anxiety, forgetfulness, moodiness, difficulties with concentration and word finding, and even bi-polar.

It actually makes me very cross when people blabber on about we have to chose to be happy, blah blah blah and all that Pollyanna waffle you find in places like Facebook. I put it in the same bracket as 'age is just a number', which is obviously arrant rubbish! You're only as happy as your hormones allow you to be (among other things). It isn't a choice. When your hormones are all well-balanced - which I doubt many people's are - then you can make a choice to be happy. Possibly.

So, yes, I imagine an awful lot of people feel like that when their hormones are out of kilter - either because of hypothyroidism, or other hormonal problems. I was especially like that in my teens, I remember. And, if bi-polar had been invented then, I'm pretty sure I would have been diagnosed with it. Don't worry. :)

Oh, these doctors are so stupid! If you are hypo, you cannot 'go hyper'. It's a physical impossibility. You can, of course, be over-medicated, but it doesn't sound as if you are. The fact that your TSH and FT4 are now 'in-range' doesn't mean that your dose is optimal. But, without the numbers, it's impossible to make further comment. We need to know exact blood test results, ranges and dose.

However, one thing is certain, if your doctor is dosing by the TSH, then he will forever be increasing and decreasing your dose, without you ever getting well. When you are on thyroid hormone replacement, the TSH is irrelevant unless it goes high. It doesn't matter how low it goes.

Have you had your antibodies tested?

Yes I have hashimoto now

Then you need your TSH suppressed. Are you gluten-free and taking selenium to lower antibodies?

No I haven't tried gluten free yet

I'm eating Brazil nuts and my pre pregnancy vitamins have selenium in them

You have absolutely not way of knowing how much selenium there is in Brazil nuts - if any. It depends where they grew. That's a very unreliable way of getting a nutrient.

How much is in your pre-pregnancy vitamins? More to the point, what else is in them? Who told you to take them? Because bunches of nutrients stuffed together in one pill, like that, are often a very bad idea.
