Weight gain on Levothyroxine & HRT?

Can anyone say whether taking Levothyroxine with Evorel Conti patches & Vagifem pessaries can induce weight gain or impede efforts to lose weight? Been on Levo since January this year -currently taking 125mcg & started HRT in June. Thanks!

So, when did you start to put on weight?

I’ve been steadily putting on weight since being menopausal (2years ago completely ceased) but with recurring & persisting UTI s, I was put on HRT to see if that would help with the UTI symptoms. Trying to lose weight but not having much success, so just wondered if HRT could be contributing to difficulty in losing weight?

More likely to be under-active thyroid, I would have though. Especially given that you have had the weight problem since before the HRT. If your FT3 is still low, then you aren't going to lose weight. And, actively trying to lose weight - low-calorie diets and excessive exercise - is going to make that worse.

I don’t know my FT3. GPs won’t authorise it but I suspect it is low. Seeing an Endo in Jan who ive seen before as he’s a general medicine Consultant & I could ask that it’s taken there. Got a bad cold as well & def feel weak & dizzy as well . Latest TSH was 0.439 (0.2-4.2) & T4 was 22.92 (12.0-22.0). I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos as well very recently (last month).

If it’s any help I have found the ketogenic diet to work. Takes some getting used to and quite a bit of dedication to start with. It’s a way of life rather than a diet but the only thing that’s worked for me. I am also on HRT. Age 63 and if they take me off I will kill them

That’s how I feel about it!

I lost a little weight on synthetic oral HRT. More when I started THs. I’ve been having a few blips withbioidentical HRT, but think that will improve when I increase my dose of oestrogen gel.

They've taken me off HRT against my will but a GP in Australia re-tested me & gave me Progesterone cream, DHEA capsules plus T3 capsules. I feel hugely better but UK GP says no! So now trying to get it all done privately before Aussie meds run out! Help! 😐😣😥

I really don’t know what to suggest other than get another doctor. I fought my surgery for my HRT as I had been taken off with no safety net. Horrendous symptoms so told them I would get it off the internet if they refused. God knows where I would have found it but I won.

Not so easy to get another GP as live in the back of beyond of N Wales & NOT allowed to move GP unless chance address :(

Thanks to all who have replied. What exactly is the ketogenic diet? Unfortunately having IBS with UTI persistence it’s very difficult to have a diet that is too high in fibre or fruit & nutty in content. I am trialling a low carb diet ie no bread pasta potatoes etc .

High fat low carb basically. Took some getting used to after years of low fat. Your also then sugar free and gluten free. I have no gastric issues since I have been on it. My doctor told me I was obese but couldn’t suggest anything to help as I had tried every diet going. She congratulated me when I lost 15 kilo but threw a fit when she found out how. 🙄
