Biopsys results

Hi everyone . Went to see consultant today for results of needle biopsy. He said grade 1 to 5 . Mine was a 3 . Said need half thyriod removed . 80% benign 20 % cancer so shocked. X .

Thyroid cancer is the most easily treated and has the best survival rates, around 98-99%. If it is papillary cancer it is usually sufficient to remove the thyroid lobe which has the nodule. Your remaining thyroid lobe will usually produce sufficient thyroid hormone but, if not, you will be prescribed Levothyroxine.

It's always a shock being told you have cancer but at least with thyroid cancer the surgery will remove it and there won't usually be awful chemo or radiotherapy afterwards. I'm in my 6th year of remission from Hurthle cell carcinoma.
