I have been diagnosed with under active thyroid and now on 75mg of levo, I also had a positive result for antibodies, I am ok but find just a walk or light housework , gardening etc leaves me with aches in my legs , arms , shoulders etc , just feel like an old woman but only 47 and worry this is it for me now ,
why do i feel aches and pains after doing hoove... - Thyroid UK
why do i feel aches and pains after doing hoovering, gardening etc
Unfortunately it's part and parcel of our thyroid condition. Muscles are weakened, you'll run out of active hormone quickly as your thyroid can't keep up with your body's demands, so try not to over-exert yourself, either. It is difficult when even very light housework makes one feel that way.
You may still be under-medicated - do you have any recent test results and ranges you can share?
i dont at the moment but will get them, I have always been so active never stop , always finding something do to like decorating, changing garden etc but since being diagnosed i feel so ache after doing anything and i guess i need to slow down, thank you for your reply very much appreciated as docs just dont seem to give much advice ,
Yes a doctor might just say 'it's your age' which has to be such a dismissive get-out-of-all-questions response.
Very interested to read that "thyroid can't keep up with body's demands"....very little effort and my remaining strength and energy have gone. Didn't link that to being hypo. Had intended to discuss raising my levo with GP in a couple of weeks......sooooo tired and sore! I'm also FM/ME...so some controversy there over symptoms! But I am 72...in digits only!!
Thank you!
Hello im hyper but also hashimotos and i ache like i have flu and then the next day it is gone, it comes and goes all the time, exhaustion, needing to rest. Im off work for my 3rd month as i cant go and do things like i used too, hoovering is a big no no for me, it gets me exhausted and very breathless. Its a pain i know.xx
Forgot to say im only 47 aswell and feel like 87 some days.
Thank you for your reply, yes i feel that feeling like flu aches but then comes and goes depending on how much I have done, people think you are being a wimp and just making excuses because you are now diagnosed but honestly it really is happening, I hate it as always on go but seem to be slowing down , have to say i have good and bad days and i guess this is just what it is now i am hypo . does the positive result for antibodies mean i am Hashimoto as doctor didnt say just said prooved poss for antibodies
This is so true 'oh, your thyroid?' followed by an eyeroll. Shocked at my weak muscles, can't get off the floor if I kneel unless I have something nearby to haul myself up with! You just have to pace yourself so as not to exhaust (very limited) energy reserves.
i guess we are in a world of not understanding from doctors , do you knees hurt when you kneel on them as mine do and when i get up feel like im so old just though this was ageing thing
oh and my elbows whats that all about they hurt to touch and if im cutting something it hurts . im falling apart lol
If high tpo antibodies it will be hashis, high tsi graves. But if u post your results on here the more experienced forum lovely people will advise, its disgusting yet again that docs know nothing about resultsand dont advise you. Gain as much info as you can about your condition, people hete are great. I trust them more than doctor or more equally useless endo. Hashis as alit of symptons that can make you very poorly aswell as the antibodies destroying your thyroid. Take it easy only people going through this will know how you feel. Hashimotos is a disability.xx
How long have you been taking 75mcgs
Should be retested after 6-8 weeks. Post your results including ranges when you have them
You say your antibodies are high, this is Hashimoto's, (also known as autoimmune thyroid disease). About 90% of hypothyroidism in UK is due to Hashimoto's.
Hashimoto's very often affects the gut, leading to low stomach acid, low vitamin levels and leaky gut. About 5% are coeliac, but over 80% of us find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
Low vitamins that affect thyroid are vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. When they are too low they stop Thyroid hormones working. Important to test these
Don't be surprised if GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms.

Thankyou slowdragon you have explained it much better to james than i could.xx
A Paleo Ketogenic diet is the way forward for all of us here.
Plus pro-biotic, gluten free, dairy free.
Please take a look at drmyhill.co.uk
It's a lightbulb moment reading her website. An incredibly knowledgable doctor. Also search for her videos on YouTube.
It's our mitochondria which are all affected by Thyroid / Hashi / FM / ME etc etc The mitochondria are the power houses of all our cells. When these are dysfunctional then it affects every single function in our bodies. Gut health, joint and muscle pain, etc etc
Our body cannot reproduce ATP so when we do activities that use up our stores i.e. Exercise, gardening, housework, this results in excess lactic acid, causing pain.
We also run out of ATP which takes 1-3 days to remake, leaving us exhausted. Bit like running out of petrol.
Please take a look. Xx
ps to all you lovely people that replied can i just add that weight is not a issue for me, i have always been slim and even now aged 47 and two grown up boys i am happy with my weight , always been one of these people that can eat what they want but never put weight on , does eveyone with under active thyroyd put weight on or am i just lucky
Did you get vitamins tested.
Aches and pains is often low vitamin D
Anxiety can also be linked to gluten (astonishing I know)
It was for me, was my only gluten "symptom". No gut issues what so ever. Subsequent endoscopy confirmed severe gluten intolerance

Gluten free is not a diet as such, but helps gut heal and then can absorb vitamins better. Extremely common to acquire gluten intolerance with hashimoto's
