Hello everyone! I just joined. For about 4 months I have been having this thing at about 3 a.m. where my body feels like its vibrating. It used to just be my chest, upper arms and back, but now its everywhere, lately mostly in my legs. Its like a vibrating buzzing feeling. I don't feel scared or anxious, not restleggy, just physically buzzy, like my body is vibrating like a cellphone. I have Fibromyalgia, MVP, chronic pain, have recently been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, and am being checked for Hashimotos Hypothyroidism, but haven't gotten results yet. Anybody experienced this vibrating thing not associated with any Restless Leg Syndrome symptoms and do my symptoms sound like a thyroid thing? Neither my GP nor my Endo seem to be alarmed about it, but it wakes me every night and keeps me awake for a bit and is extremely annoying.

Vibrating Feeling About 3am
I have had that buzzy vibrating feeling for a few years and have it most of the time. I'm not sure what has caused it but it has improved a bit since being diagnosed as hypo and also finding that I am low in vit B12 and also magnesium which I now take supplements for. Mine is mainly in my lower body, from the waist down.
I also get a feeling like I can sense the blood pumping around my veins .... a strange whooshing feeling throughout my body but also unexplained. A friend who has fibromyalgia and is also hypo says she also has these symptoms, so hopefully nothing to worry about. I have previously seen a neurologist and had MRIs but I've not had a diagnosis for these strange sensations.
Yes definitely get your B12 checked but also Vit D, Folate and ferritin. Docs are often pants with these so post your results here for better advice
I used to get something similar too and restless legs and pain everywhere but all cleared up after going gluten free so worth trying for three months if you don't get any answers
Hi I have this. I too have hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia. However I have it often during the day. I also regularly wake about 3 am and have recently started taking a dose of T3 then as suggested by the Recovering with T3 book. This has helped hugely and I'm feeling better. I think I'm having fewer episodes of vibrating! It maybe caused by adrenal problems.
The inner vibrating is adrenal related, cortisol affects the vascular tone of the arteries. Maybe you can look into adrenal support to see if it helps.
I'm seeing an endocrinologist who is testing me for Hashimotos and said she would take a look at all my hormones. Is that what you mean by adrenal support? Thank you for your time in answering.
You can ask the endo to do a serum cortisol test in the early morning, but it is worthwhile doing a saliva test to see what your free cortisol levels are across the day. If you need adrenal support adrenal cortex is good, Thorne do a low dose one. Hope this helps.
I think pinkjess17 may well be correct, given the time of day you experience this sensation. Perhaps consider a 24 hour adrenal stress profile (saliva)?
Also be aware that pernicious anaemia and other causes of severe B12 deficiency can lead to nerve damage that results in very odd and altered sensation, among other neurological problems. I had this sense of vibration, particularly in my feet, before I was finally diagnosed with PA. It was one of the few symptoms to resolve fully after treatment - the other damage to nerves had progressed too far and could only be halted by treatment, rather than reversed.
Thank you all for your responses😚! I'll get the results of my Hashimotos/hormone panel this week. I'm on Methyl B-12 and D3, I was GF for a year and am now on the Paleo diet. I lost 20 lbs and still have about another 10 or 20 to go.
I think you guys are right about possible nerve damage and neuropathy. I read about the saliva adrenal profile you suggested, and I'm definitely going to pursue that!
I've always been a very excitable person with tons of energy and lots of extra adrenaline produced because of alot of trauma and my MVP, and I suppose that could definitely equal adrenal fatigue at this point.
Thank you all so much for your help and support!
P.S. It does seem like I'm producing a bunch of Cortisol when this happens during the night. And then during the day, I feel so fatigued I have a really hard time getting anything done.
