cramp
I've had cramping problems for years. Doctors are no help or suggest exercise, not a lot of help if you are hypo or it is the middle of the night. Low body temperature and poor mineral and vitamin levels are often the cause.
Try a magnesium supplement, deficiency can often lead to cramps.
I agree with startagaingirl about magnesium.
My late hubby used to use homeopathic Mag Phos when he had cramps, he suffered a lot.
I used to get them from time to time, feet to the extent that toes would be almost crossed or bent, barely able to walk, calf muscle cramps, all very painful. I have been using magnesium (magnesium citrate for it's laxative properties for me) since supplementing with Vit D (magnesium is one of D3's important cofactors) and I can't remember having any cramp for a long time now.
I used to get a lot of night cramps. I now find that it doesn't happen as often as long as I take my zinc and magnesium. I take these with my supper as taking at bedtime isn't comfortable due to my hiatus hernia.
An elderly doctor I knew recommended bicarb of soda (the cooking stuff). If I do wake with cramp a few sips of a quarter teaspoon or less of bicarb dissolved in a little water is surprisingly effective and works in about 5 minutes to let me get moving, and the cramp doesn't return when I go back to bed.
I think cramp is due to a build up of acid of some sort - but I'm not a medic. Bicarb is alkali.
