In the UK, Eltroxin brand name is owned by Mercury Pharma (Concordia International). Their levothyroxine and Eltroxin-branded products are absolutely identical. They have the same Product Licence numbers. The company insists they are identical.
In many other countries, Eltroxin is likely to refer to a product produced by Aspen - but in some is the same as the UK product.
Whilst it is important to stick to one make of levothyroxine, and not swap every time you get a new prescription, the only advantage of having the name "Eltroxin" on the prescription is to ensure that happens. It can, however, cause problems when there are supply issues. At times Eltroxin has been unavailable despite the identical Mercury Pharma levothyroxine being in good supply.

Hi Dsdc, have you been diagnosed with a thyroid problem? Are your symptoms related to your thyroid I am curious as to why your Dr would prescribe thyroid medication for muscular and joint pain?
To be honest, I have just come OFF Eltroxin and my muscle and skeletal pain has improved drastically. I have very little pain at all now and my mobility has improved greatly. I have been treated with deep tissue massage and physiotherapy for the duration of the withdrawal period so cannot say whether the improvement is from therapy or discontinuation of the medication. I was on .05mg Eltroxin for approx 14 years and my unbearable pain developed over that time period.
I hope this does not stop you from trying, but I would recommend researching your options thoroughly before starting Eltroxin for reasons other than what it is indicated for.
Hi Dsdc. Are you gluten-free? I went gluten-free about 5 years ago and one of the main things I noticed after about 2 weeks was that I didn't ache any more. I hadn't been aware of aching permanently. If I ever have any gluten I have difficulty moving when I wake up next morning and I ache for a few days. I suspect links with waterworks issues and changes in my vision. All this seems to infer weakening of muscles etc.
I've recently been changed from taking Eltroxin for 6 months back to Mercury Pharma levothyroxine for the last 2 months and for the last 2 weeks I've been feeling loads better - back to where I was when I used to take it. Until a year ago I was usually given MP levothyroxine and was fine. I know the Mercury Pharma products are supposed to be the same but that has not been my experience over the last year.
