Can high ferritin be converted to usable iron?

What has caused high ferritin levels? If you have over supplemented you will need to eat a low iron diet until you've used up some of your stored iron.

High ferritin can be a side affect and symptom of poorly managed or poorly treated Hashimoto's

What are your latest thyroid test results and vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Do you have Hashimoto's (high antibodies)

ferritin is a protein that binds to iron to enable the body to use it - so it is used as an indicator of iron levels and is quite a good one - if you have a lot of ferritin then that is an indicator that you have a lot of iron.

ferritin isn't converted to iron

I only know this. My daughter has high ferritin and has abundant amounts of hair. She has no thyroid problems either.

I had massively high ferritin last Match tests...been testing 3 monthly since then. My ferritin has come down slowly although still over range (top of my range 205..I'm was 289 on last weeks test).

My hair started thinning a few years ago but seem worse now.

I'm interested to read replies to your post as have often thought it was more to do with high ferritin than thyroid.
