Dosing before bloodtest now I don't split ndt 🤔

Hi,for the last week or so I've been taking my ndt all in one dose at 6am (it's more convenient that way for me) and I don't feel any different than when i was splitting it twice a day....I have an appointment for thyroid bloods this week (as well as lady hormones!)...the blood test is for 8am...Ive seen conflicting recommendations on this, but when I was spliting my doses , it would end up being about 17 hr between last dose and blood draw...What should I do now?split it for just that day beforehand?or take full dose later in the day rather than at 6am ?or is it even ok to leave it for a full 24hr ?🤔thanks

Lozzer66 My view, which may not be the same as anyone else's, when taking NDT the most important result is FT3. To get a more accurate results for FT3 your last dose should be no more than 12 hours before your blood draw.

Take NDT too close to blood draw and you'll get a high FT3 result, take it too far away and you'll get a low result. It's generally seen here on the forum that 8-12 hours is about right for last dose of T3 or NDT before blood draw.

I'm on a levo/T3 combo. When testing I adjust timing so that levo is taken 24 hours before blood draw and I split my T3 (usually taken all at once early morning) so that half of it is taken 12 hours before blood draw. I do it every time and I can compare results accurately.

Lozzer66,

FT3 will be low if you leave 24 hours between last dose and blood draw but you can extrapolate the FT3 by +20% to estimate your normal circulating FT3 level.

Taking your full dose at 6 a.m is good. You just don't take it on the morning of the blood test but after the blood test.

Always allow 24 hours approx between last dose and blood test and take afterwards.

If you can tolerate it all at once you probably aren't on enough, what are your temps like through the day ?

Hi,When I was taking 3grain a day my temperatures were between 34.5-36.3 and always higher in the morning (basal) ...now I have reduced and adressed adrenals and vitamins they are 36.2-37 ...lowest in morning now. These temperatures are the same as when I was spliting twice a day ,but now I don't feel any 'dip'mid afternoon that I did when it was time to take my second dose.

I split my dose 3 or 4 ways. 6am 1g, 11am 1g, 4pm .5g and 10pm 1g. This keeps me very level with heaps of energy. If I start getting sleepy during the day it's because I've missed one. I have stashes of NDT all over the place, car, work , PC bag, wallet, fridge, bedside.

Tell me more about what you did to "address adrenals".

Gosh that sounds a bit of a faff? I take mine all in one go and it makes no difference to when I used to split it. I am really well at the moment and feel I've found my optimal dose 🙂 I would think it more likely that you aren't on enough hence why you can't go the day without 'topping up'?

Hi Nat, I take 3.5 grains of NDT per day roughly, if I took it all at once it'd blow my head off. The T3 in (NDT) gives me heaps of energy for swimming, sailing jogging, cycling. 3-4 hours after taking a grain, I feel myself dropping onto the storage part of NDT (T4). I then feel like I'm dragging myself around and my temp drops to 34.5ish, I'm going to sleep at my desk and so on.

I adjust my dose daily by .5 grain depending on body temp, activity and time of the year - winter summer.
