Transitioning to NDT

Looking at posts & answers in the archives I see that 1 grain of NDT is equivalent to 75mcgs thyroxine or 100mcgs thyroxine. Also that T3 is 3 times stronger than T4 or 4 times stronger. Is this all trial & error then?Is it all anecdotal?

What is the current thinking on a straight overnight switch from T4/T3 combo to NDT?

Many thanks in advance for all feedback!

Straight switchover is fine. I always state 1 grain is around 100mcg but that's o.k. for a switchover as it is really immaterial because if we take too much of any thyroid hormones we will have unpleasant reactions and drop to previous dose. Maybe these will be helpful:-

For me it didn't work.

Tried going over from 150 T4 to 75 T4 and 1 grain NDT. Severe headache, bp up pulse rate up and very nervous anxious feeling. Not pleasant.

Tried 1/4 grain at a time increasee. Starting with 1/4 NDT per day plus balance of T4. Its about a month or so on. Now take just 2grains NDT early morning. May increase by another 1/4, I'll see how I feel.

I understand some have made straight switch, I couldn't.

Naomi8,

The manufacturers state that the bioequivalent effect of 1 grain is equivalent to 100mcg Levothyroxine. The actual content is 38mcg T4 + 9mcg T3 which is equivalent to 65mcg Levothyroxine.

T3 is 3 x stronger than Levothyroxine ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/204...

You should have no problem switching from T4+T3 combination to NDT which is T4+T3 combination.
