Help dry hair!!

I have had my thyroid removed in March this year, I am now taking 125g of levothyroxine. Still trying to work out my levels. Can anyone tell me if levothyroxine makes your hair dry? My hair is in a really bad way since having my thyroid removed?

It's more likely to be vitamin or mineral deficiencies or incorrect levothyroxine dosage. If you get hold of your blood test results and post them here then people may be able to make useful suggeestions. Make sure you include the laboratory ranges.

If you haven't had vitamins tested yet then get B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D tested as many people with thyroid conditions are deficient.

Everything happens slowly in the Thyroid world so make sure you keep getting your bloods done every six weeks to get thyroid thyroid bloods correct. It you post them with the ranges then people can help you with that. The thyroid affects every cell in our bodies so the problems when not on the correct dose can be numerous. But again when adding vitamins it doesn't happen overnight, can be months rather than weeks before you see a different. When this happened to me my hairdresser said to not wash if so often as that takes away essential oils.

Just to repeat something that someone wrote recently, look into your ferritin (an iron) levels for hair damage. Low ferritin will cause hair loss - at least that is what happened to me. When I started to take a small iron supplement I noticed a slight improvement in my hair. Right at the moment I cannot give you a dose of iron supplement, for me I get constipation if I take too much, that's just one of the delicate balances we have to take into our own hands once we have no thyroid.

Be careful with Hema-Plex as it contains quite a lot of vitamin B6. Too much B6 is definitely not a good idea.
