Hi could someone please tell me if my TSH level is normal? My results have come back as 0.42 mu/L (0.35-5.50) I have no idea what this means and having researched this on the internet I am still none the wiser. Any advice would be greatly received. Thank you
TSH levels : Hi could someone please tell me if... - Thyroid UK
TSH levels
Well, it's within range so normal in that sense.
Are you diagnosed with thyroid disease and on medication?
Thank you for your reply. I have been told I'm borderline and not on any medication. What would the levels be if the thyroid was under active?
Booboolulu,
TSH 0.42 is low-normal as it is inbetween 0.35 - 5.5. It's not borderline. Borderline would be 0.35 or 5.5.
If you had primary hypothyroidism TSH would be >5.5. TSH only doesn't exclude central hypothyroidism where TSH may remain low-normal but FT4 and/or FT3 are low.
You really need FT4 and FT3 testing as well. You can get them done with a home fingerprick test if your GP wont do them, lots of use use these tests.
As Clutter has said, a low TSH excludes primary hypothyroidism, but with a low TSH and low FT4/FT3 it could be central or tertiary where the problem lies with the pituitary or the hypothalamus rather than the thyroid.
Thanks for your replies. Where can I buy the home test kits please?
Just head over to the Thyroid UK site and look for the link to private lab testing. There are a few options, but Medichecks offers discounts every Thur. Some members test Free T's and TSH at Blue horizon, then nutrients at Medichecks when the discount is available.
Thank you so much I will take a look
