I am new to this and wondered if anyone can help me. I've been suffering terrible symptoms of weak upper arms and thighs, racing heart, hair loss, terrible insomnia and grinding my teeth at night, I feel as though everthing has sped up, i also have brain fog. I've been to the dostors quite a few times and I've had a few blood tests, in February my T4 was 14 which is fine it's gone up to 15.1 and recently my blood showed 16.9. My body is very sensitive to things and wondered if this is what is making me feel like this? My dad had an overactive thyroid. Thank you in advanced for your help x

Hello and welcome Rope 01, You need to get your full blood test results and post them here along with laboratory ranges for people to be able to give you good suggestions. For starters, what are your Tsh, T4 and T3 and the ranges? Then have you had tests for thyroid antibodies?
When you get more results post here. Is the T4 actually FT4? If so it is slightly raised but without FT3 and antibodies result, hard to say what's going on.
If you've got all of your test results with their lab ranges then you need to post them all on here and people can look at them and advise you.
Have to say, reading through your post I wasn't at all surprised to read that your father had an overactive thyroid because some of your symptoms sounded very like mine and I've got Graves Disease which is an overactive thyroid with antibodies.
My upper body strength was never great but I found my thigh muscles were so weak that after I had got down to ground level for any reason, I couldn't get up again unless I had something to learn or someone to pull me up, I just thought it was because I had too much in my back pack.
I couldn't sleep either, I used to waken up several times anight in a sweat with my heart absolutely pounding away. I could feel it beating like my body was onebig pulse, I could feel it pounding if my husband put his hand on my stomach.
I lost weight and my hands were incredibly shaky all the time, it was horrible. Basically I was so hyped up I was like the Duracell bunny on speed.
I was also like you in that I had been to the doctor several times with various problems and although I felt really bad I felt like an absolute hypochondriac because there never seemed to be anything wrong with me to the extent that I was told ' I was needing a holiday' three months before I was finally diagnosed.
You need to go back - maybe take someone with you for support if you feel you want to - and tell your doctor that you have a family history of overactive thyroid and have him check you out again, you want TSH, T4, and ideally T3 but it's probably unlikely that they will test T3 and for thyroid antibodies, also test for vitamin D, B12, ferritin and folates, you want the last four to be high within their ranges for your thyroid to work well.
Yes sorry it's FT4. My B12 527 pg/ml (180-914.0) folate level 19ng/ml (4.0 - 20.0) when I get my other results I will post on here. Thank you both, I feel dreadful didn't sleep at all last night as am on Zopiclone 7.5 and didn't take it last night as I am worried I am depending on them. My heart was racing, I keep waking up really early too, I feel as though my metabolism as sped up, I hate feeling like this I feel as though i am living in a nightmare x
