My medication

Hi all, well an update for you. So, my GP has finally given in! If my TSH levels go up again next week she will give me thyroid medication. Positive antibodies and TSH is at 4.89.

Question really, I take Gabapentin and amitriptyline for permanent nerve damage in my arm, will my thyroid meds (when I get them) interact with them or will it be ok?

There is info on the Thyroid Uk site who run this forum about things like that. Food is one hour after medsasit interferes with absorption and other meds two but some are four. I remember that iron, vitamin D and calcium are in the four hours but not sure if any more.

Hi, I take amit for nerve pain and felt ill at the beginning of taking levo . Someone once told me that the levo makes the amitrip work harder, I am not sure if this is true. However, eventually I did find the right balance by reducing the amitrip and it didn't affect my pain. I was also told to take them as far apart as poss so I take levo in morning and amitrip at night. Sorry I don't know about the other drug. It would be worth talking to your chemist thought, they should know. Good luck hope you feel better soon.

I'm reluctant to reduce my amitriptyline because it stops the burning in my arm, I did try to reduce it a couple of years ago but couldn't stand the burning, it was as if someone had poured boiling water on my arm. Thanks DollyDuck 😊

I am not aware the pain killer affects thyroid meds but antidepressants definitely do.

I do agree with everyone I'd suggest having all yr vitamin and thyroids checked. If your gp won't do them it's worth considering blue horizon privately.

On a personal note I found pregabalin ( axalid) better for me and it definitely ( for me) does not affect your meds. That said I don't take them together.

Thanks Howard39, GP is checking all my vitamins, I'm on iron tablets at the min cos levels were low last time I had my bloods done

Make sure you get the actual results and ranges. Never accept "they are fine/normal" as a result
