Should I be concerned?

I have been searching online to try to find out whether I should be concerned about hypo in my daughter. I have hypo and was very symptomatic long before I was diagnosed. In hindsight I was very unwell and it had a huge impact on my life from the age of about 18 ish. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 30. I am very keen that my daughter does not have to go through this and have wondered whether being as I am hypo whether or when I should be concerned about her. She is fit and healthy but more tired than she should be for her age. Am cautious about presenting to the gp as an over anxious parent. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

Qapi - with hindsight being such a wonderful thing, I think there may be a few of us on the forum wishing we'd had thyroid tests carried out when were fit and healthy to give us a baseline to compare future tests. So personally I would recommend absolutely anyone getting a full thyroid panel done before even thinking they may have a problem.

As your daughter is tired, it may even be low ferritin, so get the full thyroid panel with vitamins and minerals as well. Blue Horizon Thyroid Plus Eleven or Medichecks Thyroid Ultravit.

Qapl - I feel exactly the same as you do about my 9 year old daughter. I haven't approached the GP for the same reasons but I did speak to medichecks re whether there's a minimum age before they can test a child etc. I was told last week that they require a dr's referral for a child under 16 to be tested. Felt really disappointed as it looks like I will have to see the GP one day after all and present as a neurotic mother. How old is your daughter?

You aren't an over anxious parent but a well informed parent with thyroid experience and recognises the symptoms and also the fact it needs addressing before she is older. You don't say her age but puberty can be a shock to the system without throwing in more problems but whatever her age it needs addressing.

I should start the conversation of what happened to you and that now you are seeing this in your daughter so for peace of mind and well being fot both of you could this be looked into asap as you know the impact it had in your life.
