Hi everyone, i have had thyroid and anemia bloods taken and i know there is a problem with the results as doctor phone to say he wants to see me tomorrow. I have been ticking all the boxes for thyroid problems, and i have also heard that if you have celiac disease you are more prone to problems with your thyroid, 2 blood tests have confirmed celiac and i have a endoscopy for biopsy next week, i have been reading posts on here and must admit i feel everwhelmed by the amount people know and all the jargon used, which is great but if this is confirmed tomorrow i just want to make sure the doc does not fob with off and thats it, once confirmed what should happen? and do i have to have more bloods done? and i would also like a copy of my results but what if doc declines? Help! best wishes.

Is this your first thyroid test? If it is, and the TSH is high, he will probably want to do another test in three months time or so, to make sure that the high TSH is due to low thyroid, or due to a bug of some kind.
If you've already had a high TSH in other tests, and this one is high, too, he should start you on thyroxine (T4) on a daily dose of 50 mcg - don't let him fob you off with 25! That's too low. Then, you should be retested six weeks later, and your dose increased. And, repeat that process until you feel well.
If you live in the UK, it is your legal right to have a copy of your results, under the 1998 Data Protection Act. If he refuses, he is breaking the law, and there are steps you can take to obtain your results.
Thankyou greygoose, it is my very 1st test so dont know what to expect really and dont want to be fobbed off by some doctor who may not lnow whay they are on about, i will be saying i want a copy of results with ranges. Just alot to take in at the moment as i know very little about this condition
None of us know anything about it before we have it. We all have to learn. It seems like a lot to take in to begin with, but you'll soon pick it up. And, there will always be someone here to answer your questions.
Rmichelle,
Having one autoimmune disease does increase the risk of developing others but it doesn't follow that being coeliac means you also have thyroid dysfunction.
There's little we can do to advise until we know what your thyroid results and ranges are. There's no reason for your GP to decline to tell you your results and ranges. If s/he does remind him/her that the Data Protection Act entitles patients to their test results and ranges. If necessary, arrange to see the practice manager to get your results.
