Hello,

Little history, I have had undiagnosed hypothyrpid for a long time. I saw Dr Zacariah in april and he startrd me on 1/2 grain naturthroid. I saw dr peatfield in May who diagnosed me withAdrenal insufficiency (my body prodcues cortisol but doesnt use it hence why my saliva tests look artificially high).

Dr P started me on Adrenanvive II stsrting with 1 tablet and increasing to 2 after 3 weeks.I never felt better and slept well (7 hours of uniteruppted sleep) after months of insomnia. I had morr energy and generally felt happier and my basal temp started to average between 36.5 and 37.But i started to gain a little weight om it.

I also take iron bispholygate and vitamim d tabletd as wel as folate.

i saw Dr Zachariah om 18th July who imcreased my naturthrpid to 3/4 grain a day

He also said initial weight gain is normal whem starting on adrenal supplements and thag it will plataeu and i will start to lose it after a few months.

Pronlem is for last week or so my old sleepong habits have returned ie waking up at 1and 4 am. Also feel bruning eyes althougj I am.fine when i wake up in morming. My basal temp still averaging high 36 to 37.0. But my hypersensitivty to noise bas returend as well and still.gaining weight.

What could this be. I.need to lose 3 stone otherwise my joints will suffer.

All help appreiciated.

I am not medically qualified but I would think that 3/4 grain of NDT may be a bit low. It is equal to around 75mcg of levothyroxine.

If you've gained weight, when we get to an optimum dose of thyroid hormone replacement it should reduce or diet. We cannot do either until on optimum hormones for us.

But doesnt thyroid kick only once adrenals are optimal?

I saw two doctors - one of whom said that it is preferable to have Adrenals at optimal.

The other said that once on optimum dose of thyroid hormones, the adrenals sort themselves out.

It certainly is. I did try Adrenal Extra (I believe it was) but I felt worse so I stopped. I am fine now so whatever caused it has solved itself. Of course on the way I had to chop/change/try all sorts of thyroid hormone replacements.

Have you considered a Ketogenic diet? I used both and am still doing so during my treatment with Roderick Lane. Look for the Science of Ageing Backwards: Regeneration-X on Amazon. Its written specifically for adults not gym bunnies of insane weight lifters. Hey has a lot of free information on the Thyroid Care Group on FB. Good luck drop me a line if you want a few tips and hints. C

Is this ideal for adrenal problems?

Hi - what you are experiencing now is the feedback loop effect from thyroid treatment. When your pituitary senses an increase in the body's supply of hormone (due to treatment), it stops shouting so loudly (high tsh) a your thyroid and hence your own production decreases slightly. This then reduces your overall thyroid hormone levels and returns you to more of a hypo state. What that means is that you need an increase in dose of your ndt. In people on t4 only they generally start to feel that effect about 5 weeks after a dose increase, with ndt it is a bit quicker because of the t3 content.

The normal recommendation in the forum is to raise the dose every couple of weeks initially to counter this up to about 1.5-2 grains then hold for 6 weeks and see how you feel.

Good luck

Gillian
