Lansoprozole : I forgot to say doc taken me off... - Thyroid UK
Lansoprozole
Both Lanzoprazole and Zantac are acid reducers in our stomachs. The problem is with hypothyroidism is that we usually have low acid and we need acid in our stomachs to dissolve food, particularly protein.
However, as doctors know few clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism, they. are unaware that with low and high acid the symptoms are practically the same.
Many on the forum take digestive enzymes or a good Apple Cider Vinegar (with mother) mixed with water or juice to provide the necessary acid in their stomachs.

Thanks for reply there is a difference with Lansoprozole and ranitidine. Lansoprozole blocks all acid ranitidine does not and my doctor explained all about it. Lansoprozole also affects bones so a few reasons I wanted to stop it. I could not drink the cider vinegar as tried it in the past the thought makes me gag
Zantac reduces acid .... we need good acid levels to be healthy and to break down proteins.
I understand some disliking acid cider vinegar but there are other options. If you are happy taking Ranitidine to reduce your stomach acid that is completely fine. These are a couple of excerpts:
If you're taking thyroid drugs and you have condition that affects stomach acid or you are taking medicines that affect stomach acid, consult a doctor with any questions about your drug doses. Never change drug doses on your own.

There have been many studies showing that those with thyroid dysfunction are prone to developing specific GI issues.
For instance, those with Grave’s disease were found to have 5 times the risk of developing Celiac disease and there are associations with Grave’s and Crohn’s. And IBD has been connected with patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
Having a happy thyroid is so crucial to having a happy body, because the thyroid makes and secretes the hormones responsible for all this metabolism/digestive stuff. Thyroid hormones help turn the cogs of the great machine, so to speak. But to understand the root of why thyroid hormones are low or high, we first need to talk about the 2 common ones:
The Thyroid Hormones T4 and T3, which affect nearly all parts of digestion.
Meet Your Friends T4 and T3 (and How Your Gut Health Influences Them)
The thyroid gland makes T4 in response to the brain sending it a chemical messenger called Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). But most cells in the body want T3, which means this whole process gets complicated fast. When I say thyroid hormones I’m speaking about T4
