Hashimotos and breast pain.

Hi

I have hashimotos, my tsh is 0.5 and t3 normal range. I have fluid retention causing muscle and joint pains . I now have started having awful breast tenderness every day alongs side intermittent lower back pain. Periods are regular give or take a couple of days however they last 2 days sometimes on my 1; so minimal amount. I have been told i have fybromyalgia and i am certain the fluid retention is what's causing the joint and muscle pains and it gets worse in warm weather. I am single mom of two very busy teenagers so feeling like this is very difficult.

I have advised my gp about the breast pain and swelling (which now wakes me very night) and is with me every day?? They said it is due to fybromyalgia. I asked them last week if fybromyalgia is a disability ? (For work purposes) and they responded with "fybromyalgia is hard to diagnose" . What bothers me is when i have new symptoms they put it down to fybromyalgia but when I ask if it is classed as a disability they say it's hard to diagnose??? God knows what damage this water retention is doing to my body 😏 has anyone else experienced constant breast pain with hashimotos??

As someone with both Hashi's hypothyroid as well as fibromyalgia I can say that yes FM is both disabling and a disability - if you find a competent DR to diagnose. This is often identified by key trigger points on the body and other indentifying symptoms. I find there is some crossover between FM and thyroid and wouldn't be surprised if they are someday definitively linked. (Brain fog, pain, fatigue etc. - yup... very similar). There is a FM community on here if you are interested but I find it not that active. I also have intermittent breast pain and find iodine (I use kelp supplements) seems to help. Hopefully this is some help! X Rusty

Hi Rusty64,

Thank you I will have a read tonight. I have read that FM can be caused by undertreated/poorly managed thyroid conditions. X

Hi, I also recommend iodine - for both breast pain and fibromyalgia. Lots of information here - this is the fibromyalgia treatment page but click through from the headings at the top and you'll find an index of health problems where breast pain is dealt with and also iodine protocols with the recommended supplements. Plenty of reading!

Thank you Lucky cat, I will have a read and do some research as I'm not sure if iodine is a good way forward for hashimotos; I could be wrong x

I have Hashimoto's and it worked very well. You just have to watch out for when you reach sufficiency and then stop taking it. The iodine in my NDT keeps me ticking over now, but I'm watchful for slipping below optimal levels. It's also important to supplement with selenium at the same time. The research that suggests iodine is bad fails to take that into account.

Thanks lucky cat 😺.. I forgot to mention selenium as well. They do work together!

Thats fantastic ..are u in the UK? I'm just wondering if ndt is available in the UK. I have heard iodine and selenium are good together so I will look into getting supplements. X

@Barfida Hi there I'm sorry to hear about your health struggles. I had terrible breast pain in my left breast for about a year or more and was back & foward to gp even sent for mammogram and eventually diagnosed with underactive thyroid and hashis. Once on thyroxine and my right dosage balanced out the breast pain disappeared. Good luck with getting your problems sorted :)

Thank u alysonkerry, I honestly do feel I'm under treated or have an absorption issue may be. I went to see an endo and because my tsh was at optimal range he said it wasn't my thyroid, however I do feel it is. I am unable to increase my dose with out them prescribing . 😏 I might go back and asked for it to be check again. I bet they will say it's the fybro though and I still feel the fybro pain is deffo connected to my thyroid issue xxx glad u managed to find a dose that works for u xxx

Barfida dont give up make a pest of yourself as they said it wasn't related to my thyroid too but once given the correct dose of Levo pain disappeared ?? Good luck let us know how u get on :)

PS: As far as a FM diagnoses goes please get a referral to see a Rheumatologist to investigate further.

Thank u rusty64, i saw a rheumatologist last year and he said all blood test show no sign of other immune disease and put it down to hypermobility and tendonitis. My main concern is the fluid retention is all over my body and obvious in my legs shins breast and a little just under my ankle bone. I asked my gp what it could be and he honestly doesn't know?? Xx
