i read an article that levothyroxine itself can cause hair loss and i was wondering how can someone tell if its the medication itself that cause the hair loss?

Joannagof,
It's not uncommon to experience hair loss in the first six months of taking Levothyroxine but it will usually resolve after that if it was the Levothyroxine causing hair loss. Being undermedicated also causes hairloss which should improve once you are optimally dosed.
Hello
I have not heard of this personally.
I had hair loss before diagnosis and Levothyroxine. Lost my leg hair also which I didn't mind losing. After some time on Levo, about a year, some grew back. I have 'bald' patches on legs where it hasn't but that has been put down to Lympthoedema.

I'm on 200mcg levo daily and now, after sixteen hairless months, my leg and arm hair is growing back! No underarm hair as yet. As for down below, that area had thinned by two-thirds, but now I see wee signs of regrowth. YIPPEE!
I am relieved as being hairless seems weird x
