Hi, have Hashi, currently on 100 levo. Ever since I increased from 50 last year my ears keep crackleing, (it's like I have just got off a flight and waiting for your ears to pop) it also feels odd when I swallow, eat etc.,. My hearing is being effected and I Mentioned this to GP who says its not related (but my ears are inflamed) Is it me or does anyone else have this and how did you get rid of it? Thanks

Dollyduck,
What is your GP doing about your inflamed ears? It seems likely the inflammation is causing tinnitus rather than 100mcg Levothyroxine.
Nothing. She said it will probably go as quickly as it came. However its not going so I will go back and see her. I am also having trouble swallowing now. It all may seem a coincidence but these symptoms started as soon as I increased.
Dollyduck,
If you are now having swallowing difficulty that isn't related to the dose increase. Is it not more likely you have an ear, nose and throat infection?
I will go back to my GP & get it checked. Years ago when I tried to increase I had a chesty cough which only stopped after I reduced my dose (took lots of antibiotics nothing touched it). So that's why I am suspicious. Thanks for your thoughts though. Fingers crossed it goes after a course of antibiotics.
DollyDuck,
Did you change make when dose was raised from 50mcg?
As soon as I increased from 50 to 75 my ears began to play up, (within days) went to gp who said my glands were up and ears look inflamed but it would probably sort its self out. When I increased from 75 to 100 ears have got worse. Thought I would carry on regardless but it is really effecting my hearing. So just had another BH test done, and depending on results might reduce to 75 to see if ears feel any better. Have no faith in GP unfortunately more help on here, I am positive its linked to the increase.
DollyDuck,
Yes, but I asked did you switch make or stick with the same make when dose was increased.
Sorry Clutter, yes I stuck to same brand activas.
DollyDuck,
Okay, that rules out a reaction to a change of make.
You could reduce dose to see whether the tinnitus and ear inflammation improve but you will probably have other hypothyroid symptoms if you do.
Hi, I too have Hashis and I've had ear problems on and off for 2 years (I swim a lot, but I protect with ear plugs) burst ear drum twice.... Having previously been dismissed by my Dr on a couple occasions I ended up at A&E with watery stuff coming out of my ear... So glad I went to A&E.... they rushed me in to see specialist who then did a ear suction to get all the debris out my Eustachian tube was blocked....I have read that the Eustachian tube can become blocked whilst having thyroid prob.... and the symptoms are muffled hearing and popping and crackling noise....If you pinch your nose and it won't unblock the ear..... maybe it could be the Eustachian tube...... look it up and maybe say you want to see ear specialist.... these Drs at the surgery are Just gps..... Always take notice of what your body's telling you.
