Ear Itching

I have suffered for years with itchy ears. It seems to be around the rim of the year before it goes into the ear canal. I have been prescribed an antibiotic which I had to spray which temporarily relieved it but it has now come back again - no different than before. Does anyone else get this problem and what has resolved it?

I have had this problem for years, I think it is eczema. I used to get steroid drops from the Doctor which stopped the itching for a while but didn't cure it. I am now using zinc cream which also stops the itching but only for a few days.

I'm sure I've read that on the great long list of undermedicated hypothyroid symptoms...

I get very itchy ears too, plus nasty scaley flakiness at times. Lovely, isn't it? I've not found anything helps - except the optimal amount of thyroid replacement hormone.

I use Eumavate cream but also find that a couple of drops of olive oil dripped into the ear makes a huge difference too. Also helps to guard against needing them syringed too often. Before I started the olive oil drops I was needing to have them syringed every three months, as regular as clockwork. Now not quite as often. Clemmie

I use he same cream for eczema in my ears, they get worse at night. Will have to try olive oil ,recall it was used a lot in the ears for wax at one time.

This is going to sound completely crazy - I suffered from itchy ears for years, sometimes getting infections when I'd rubbed and scratched in frustration. About 6 months ago, fed up with poor sleep due to my husband's snoring, I started using ear plugs during the night and got not just better sleep but my ears haven't itched since. Explain that! I think maybe it's something to so with the skin staying more moist and not drying out and flaking during the night.
