Hoarse Voice

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone could help me please.

Quite recent diagnosis: taking Carbimazole 40mg and Propranolol 120mg currently.

Started Carbimazole 20mg on 20th May & on 29th May I had really hoarse voice, currently remains the same - been to see ENT and he says I have a hole in my vocal cords. Apparently I'm being referred to speech and language for it, but didn't have a chance to ask what it actually means.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me please - thanks Xx

Can't help with your question but get yourself a notebook or a diary with a page a day and keep a note of any symptoms you are having or even if things feel good. Also keep a page with your blood test results and and medicines you are taking plus any changes in your medicines.

I don't remember being hoarse when I was taking carbimazole- I took 40mcg every day - all at once in the morning. I did get sore throats and slightly swollen glands, first time I had it I shot off and had a blood test to check out my white blood cells as recommended on the PIL that I was given, after that my doctor and I decided on a 'wait and see' approach and I was fine.

I found it really useful to have all that information written down. Saved going to see the endo, saying I was fine when asked then getting out and realised that I wasn't really done - why on earth did I say I was? With notes I used to just jot down bullet points of how I'd been plus any questions I wanted to ask.

Good luck with the vocal chords. Wonder if you have been straining your voice? I worked with someone many years ago (teachers) who did that and ended up very hoarse, well pretty much voiceless and needing speech therapy, her problem was caused by not finishing a sentence and taking a breath, think she tried to say too much on one breath or something like that, anyway, her speech therapy fixed her.
