Hashimotos Horror

Hi all, I have hashimotos a few years now. I live in Ireland and cannot get any treatment, not even levo, nothing. My doctor is trying to push anti depressants on me. I am exhausted, overweight, tired all the time, emotional, my hair is falling out, my hands are so swollen, I am in pain and I constantly have pins and needles in my face. I am gluten free a long time now. Does anyone have experience of a good functional medicine doctor (can be UK based) that has helped them or indeed a good endo who actually understands this disease. I am near the end of being able to deal with this. Thank you.

Hiya

Do you have your latest test results to post as this is needed for anyone to give any specific suggestions.

I would also recommend you get your B12, Folate, Iron (ferritin) and VIt D checked as many of us are deficient in these, post if you already have results :-)

My results are

FREE T4 12.0

FREE T3 4.3

VIT B12 323

VIT D 50

FERRITIN 117

IRON 21.1

THEY FORGOT TO DO MY REVERSE T3, ANTI TPO AND ANTI TGA LAST TIME EVEN THOUGH I REQUESTED THEM

Can you put the ranges in please (the numbers in the brackets after the result) as different labs use different ranges. And do you have a full blood count? You can just edit the post above :-)

Have your thyroid antibodies come back positive/high before?

Then it is likely that your thyroid will fail further but unfortunately many don't diagnose until TSH hits 10 in case it was a temporary issue etc. Unfortunately, this leaves many feeling ill for a long time. I can't really say much more without the ranges as I might be mistaken. Your T4/T3 levels look low which confirms your thyroid is struggling but I can't confirm. You can get a print out from the GPs receptionist. However, other things like deficiencies can cause conversion issues so getting these optimal would be a good place to help yourself in the meantime if you don't want self-medicate and working on any stomach issues is beneficial. Many here find a gluten free diet lowers their thyroid antibodies and improves their other health issues significantly.

Same applies to the vits, Vit D looks low but again wouldn't want to comment in case range not what expected and i'm mistaken :-)

That sounds terrible.

Due to similar experiences many sufferers take their health into their own hands - learning to become their own advocate. It sounds daunting but if you start to read this forum on a regular basis and ask lots of questions things will start to make sense and you'll realise that you know so much more than your GP.

Also a very good book to buy on the subject is:-

hi lorrietee, you sound very down, but don't give up. go back to your doctor and demand, in nice wording, your test results with the ranges in brackets [ ] you can tell them you want to file them for later references! then just open another post with results and ranges...and we will have a better chance of helping you. xoo good luck.

Hi lorrietee

I am in australia but a family member who lives in Ireland is seeing a functional doctor who might be able to help you. If you PM me I will give you her name.
