Little off topic, a question on a survey...

OK, so I belong to a survey group who regularly send me surveys.

One of the questions today was this:

'GPs say that they are having to see too many patients with complex conditions in a day, making it more likely that they will miss key symptoms. In response, the British Medical Association will this week vote on a proposal to allow GPs to shut their doors on days when they believe they cannot provide safe care to any more people. Given no increase in resources, should shutting doors be allowed?'

What is it with GPs? They seem to want to do less and less for their fat salaries, especially caring for their patients. Sorry GPs, is that not what you are paid to do?

GPs, I have a suggestion for you, how about treating your patients correctly from the start BEFORE you turn them into complex conditions?

In my case, you left me with untreated hypothyroidism for 30 years. You bet I am now 'complex'. You still do not acknowledge my condition and each and every symptom I have you see as a separate issue. Look at them all together, they are all signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism! Your head in the sand is creating the problems in your career not my 'complex' condition.

How dare you try to shut out any complex case, these are the people need more of your help!

Of course, my answer was 'do not allow'.

But they don't even know anything about symptoms! So, I'm pretty certain a hell of a lot are missed. Certainly, they missed all mine for about 50 years. And, I had one endo refuse to take me on because, he said, my case was too complicated. I sat and cried for a whole day after that. Then, wrote a stinking letter of complaint to the hospital where that endo spend all of 5 seconds with me before walking out of the room. They wrote back and said they had taken 'disciplinary measures', but didn't say what those measures were... I know what I would have liked to do to him!

I often feel that doctors/endos etc forget that they are HEALTH CARE professionals working for US and that it is OUR NHS that we pay for throughout our lives. WE are their employers.

Ha ha! Try telling an endo that! It's not that they've forgotten, they never knew it in the first place! lol

Yes, that's what I thought! :( :)

I'd say they need to plan a realistic appointment schedule and stick to it - like any company would have to. Ok that means it might take even longer than 3 weeks to get an appointment, but at least there'd be a chance of being seen on time and having the GP look at you instead of the computer screen.
