Hi Friends, There is a wonderful streaming series going on right now called SIBOsos. They will rerun it again tomorrow. It answers so many questions about the gut. The above doctor is permitted to do a study which means he is in a special category and will be doing one soon. In his segment he talks about biofilm which forms when fungus or bacteria collect together and form a shield. He found one study which he says shows that every thyroid sufferer and everyone taking Levothyroxine HAS SIBO. This is an overgrowth of bacteria somewhere in the digestive system. This undermines your treatment for thyroid and a possible reason that you never feel quite well. With SIBO you have to avoid feeding bacteria, skipping meals or having large spaces between meals may help. Be careful not to take prebiotics which will also feed the wrong bacteria. He explains the four classes of probiotics that you may try later.
Even fermented foods which we all thought was good may not be until we know we are rid of SIBO. Treatments vary and sometimes an elemental diet is all that's necessary. I'm fairly certain most GPs will have no clue so again we are stuck but I urge you to listen to the series if you can as it touches on the gluten issue, celiac, and especially what happens to our brain which Dr. Kharrazian's segment explains and he's at Harvard so I think he has loads himself.
The interviewer is wonderful and her name is Shivan Sarna. Her questions are excellent and the last one she asks all twenty or so naturopaths is how they view coffee and there are some fascinating methods to use it even though they all majorly agree it is very hard on the adrenals. You will really enjoy this series as it gives a much clearer picture of why the body cannot overcome some of these problems without your help. sibosos.com/monday-june-26-...
