Hyperthyroidism & Hyperhidrosis

Hi, my 15 year old daughter has recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (May 2017), after visiting the GP regarding excessive sweating.

She has seen an endocrinologist and is taking 30mg carbimazole and 20mg propranolol a day.

The problem is that she still sweats excessively. I was hoping that the carbimazole would cure her problem, but it hasnt.

She is getting quite distressed about this, has anyone had similar or advice.

Thanks

Hi gbf123 how long has your daughter been on carbimazole? as it can take a few weeks before you start to feel any better. when is she due another bloodtest to see where her t4/t3 and tsh are as it could be she will need another increase in carbimazole if her levels are still high.if you have recent bloodtest results post on here so people can advise you.

Thanks Raventhorpe for your quick reply.

Her initial blood test results upon diagnosis was:

T4 - 43.5 (7-17)

T3 - 19.8 (3.5-6.5)

She was then placed on Carbimazole on 11 May 2017, initially starting on 20mg, plus 40mg of propranolol.

The propranolol (to lower her heart rate which is in the low 100's at rest) gave her side effects of reflux and tiredness, so this was reduced to 20mg per day.

Following her more recent blood test on 30 May (results below) the Carbimazole was raised to 30mg last week.

T4 - 19.2 (7-17)

T3 - 10.1 (3.5-6.5)

TSH <0.01

She is due another blood test in 4 weeks time, so hopefully her T4 and T3 will be lower, however she still has the sweat problem :(

So she still got a way to go as her t3 and t4 are still a bit high and tsh is still suppressed thou I'm guessing here a little as you haven't put the ranges in for her results they are the figures in brackets after the results, these can be different depending on what lab has been used for the bloodtest so always good to include them when you post. As she only been on new dose for a week she won't feel much benefit yet, everything to do with the thyroid takes time unfortunately it's not a quick fix thou we all wish for that when we are waiting for our latest dose increase to take effect.they seem to be looking after her pretty well at the moment, its a bit of a juggling act to get the meds at the right level as too much carbimazole and you can go hypo too little and you are hyper. When she gets her new bloodtest done post on here and members will advise.i do hope she feels an improvement soon.

Should have said her sweats should improve once her meds are at right level and t4/t3 are back in range

Thank you Raventhorpe, I'll ensure I put the ranges in next time; this is my first post and you've given us some hope that the sweats will subside soon. Many thanks again.
