Lack of libido??

Hi all! Can hypo/hashi cause the death of your libido? I am 46 and can't remember a time my libido was good. I have been hypo for 15 years and take 200mg levo and 20mg antidepressants. If so can I do or take anything to get this back?

I have read recently that antidepressants were the best form of contraception...And being hypo may not help. If your bloods are good for thyroid and vitamins, ferritin and folate and you have no overt hypo symptoms, and diet good then perhaps you can consider the antidepressants? I think that something as complex as libido can have many factors influencing it. See Kelly Brogan for the full info on antidepressants.

Do you have recent blood tests to refer to? And do you take supplements?

Yes take all the supplements suggested on this site. D3 5000iud b12 injections but low on T3 but all other thyroids normal. Take 200mg levo. May try to reduce antidepressants slowly. May help?

See Kelly Brogan's website and book re preparing to reduce a dose of antidepressants. She has very good programmes to ensure that you set your self up to succeed. But I agree with shaws that low T3 could be responsible for a lot and won't be helping so best to address that properly before tackling something else. Do you have gut issues too?

Maybe it would be better if your doctor gave you 20mcg of T3 instead of anti'ds and bear in mind I'm not medically qualified. It is just that T3 is required in our billions of receptor cells, brain and heart need the most.

Your doctor should request a Full Thyroid Function test including Free T4 and Free T3 blood test and I'll give a link to read the reason why.

These are rarely taken by the NHS but we have private labs who'll home tests.

Levothyroxine (T4) is inactive and has to convert to T3 - the only active hormone required in our cells in order for us to function.

However, do not stop taking anti-depressants until you have a proper evaluation of your thyroid hormones.
