Just been to my doctors for a printout of my blood test from last week, told all ok no further action but I'm gaining weight even though I'm excersising and was told it would cost me £10 to get my results printed off. Any advise as surely they can't charge to get you blood test results printed.

I've been told the same so I've made an appointment to see doctor and plan to have a more indepth conversation and I'll write it all down, someone suggested I could take a picture with my phone

The practice is not entitled to treat blood test results as a revenue stream. They are entitled to make a nominal charge of £1/£2 to cover the cost of printer ink and paper for tests requested within 40 days of the blood draw. They should not be charging more per sheet of A4 paper than a commercial copying service would charge. If the practice doesn't relent inform them you will be complaining to the Information Commissioners Office.

I refused to pay the practice manager £10 for test results and arranged an appointment to view my medical records on screen at the practice which would have required a member of the admin team to supervise me. At my GP appointment the GP agreed it was a waste of my and the receptionist/admin time and printed the results off for me.

That doesn't sound right that they can charge £10 for a printout, I thought they were not allowed to make a profit and they could only charge what it would cost for ink and paper, I just got one from my gp's and they didn't charge me at all though I had to write a letter asking for them before they would do them

I can't even get an appointment for at least another 4 weeks

Jen23Lilley,

You don't need an appointment with the doctor. Ask to speak to the senior receptionist or the practice manager.

Hi Jen23 I had my blood test today so by Friday I will have my results I have never asked for a print out I will start now since I have been on this site it's an eye opener! They better not charge me!!! It's an insult they are my results! This is a great site so much great advice 😉👍🌞

That is ridiculous!!! I get mine printed off with no questions asked!! They are most likely trying to hide something!!!

And after seeing all the other replies on this thread I'd just report them WITH malice and totally get them in trouble IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Since joining this forum and seeing all the other people on here getting totally forsaken by our Dr's and Endo's as I was I have absolutely 0 confidence in them regarding my Thyroid problem. My new GP is actually very lovely! She's from South America (Venezuelian I think) and she seems to be a bit more 'personal' and feeling in her approach .. She NEVER EVER refuses me copies of any correspondence regarding me, be it blood results, letters from the endo to her and so on .. She even seemed to agree with me about my lieing, full of excrement endo! I say get them in trouble, no matter how petty it may be as they DO NOT CARE about you, most likely lie through their teeth to you just to keep their obscene NHS salary safe!!!

If it was me I would turn up with a notebook and pen and get them to read out the results (with the ranges) one by one. Write slowly and keep asking them to double check the numbers and spell all the long words. They will soon get fed up with it and just press 'print'. Just stay annoyingly cheerful and polite at all times and they will do anything to get rid of you, especially once the queue begins to build behind you. :-)

They can, but must not make a profit from the charge. You can get ALL your electronic records for £10, so if they want to charge £10, make a subject access request under the Data Protection Act for ALL your electronic records. They should allow you to look at the results on screen and write the down for no charge. I think you can report them to either the NHS or the Information Commissioner if they make a profit, but I doubt that anyoe would do anything about it in our lifetime, so make it annoying for them.

You are far from the only angry one on this site. Surprisingly they did give me lots of pages of print off of test results and didnt charge. l am not sure they are entitled to charge for that; others will confirm
