I am new here with an over active thyroid

I have just received a letter from my local hospital that there are no appointments for the endocrinology department, informing me I should not have to wait more than 18 weeks. What should I do in the meantime to manage my symptoms.

Welcome to the forum, Dodger123.

Your GP can prescribe Carbimazole to regulate your thyroid levels while a referral is made to another hospital.

Dodger123,

If you are severely hyperthyroid you should ask for an emergency doctor's appointment as soon as possible.

My GP was reluctant to give me meds my wait for an endo appt was 9 weeks but my levels were just over range. Try and get an appt with your GP to talk through your options and also get a note of your results.

I am feeling a bit more positive today I am going to go back to my GP and ask if I can be referred to a different hospital, will he support me if I decide to seek a private consultation and what are the health implications for me if I have to wait 18 weeks to see the specialist. Has anyone consulted a nutritionist who deals with thyroid problems would this be an option?

Thank you
