Hi,

I am almost 6 months post partial thyroidectomy and as well as other things I am struggling with pain in my scar. Its still so sore, has an impact on my sleep and I'm always conscious of it. Wondered if anyone has any advice or has experienced something similar? Tried to talk to GP but they are not interested....

Adele-84,

Is there any way you can contact the surgeon so it can be checked?

I have to be reffered back by my GP, but I'm not being taken seriously at all. So frustrating !

Adele-84,

Put the request in writing to your GP and say you will contact Patient Liaison Services (PALS) at the hospital for advice if GP won't refer you back to the surgeon.

I had an appointment automatically set up with my surgeon for about six months after my TT. My scar was fine by then so I suggest you definitely call and ask to see yours and if it was done by the NHS insist that your GP contacts him for you and arranges it.

Hi Adele-84,

I had a TT six months ago and my scar is fully healed and no pain. You need to get it checked by the surgeon ASAP for any signs of infection or nerve damage. Do you have the telephone number of his or her secretary at the hospital. That's how I get hold of my surgeon or endo. Good luck!

I have the telephone number for his department but was told when I called, I need to be referred again by GP as I have been signed back over to his care. GP thinks nothing wrong as I heal very slowly anyway, I will have to keep trying. Get fed up of fighting 😥

Ask your GP to do an urgent referral to the surgeon then. Once he's sent the referral, call the department and ask them if they have had any patient cancellation. I've worked for the NHS for many years and I've experienced what you are experiencing as a patient. It's very frustrating and sometimes I felt like giving up. That's why forum like this one is so helpful. Can you get yourself a scar patch from the chemist? It was very good for me. Look at my posts. I'm sure I've put the make on one of the posts. X

Take Serrapeptase,

You need to heal the scar/wound internally.

I remember having keyhole surgery privately and the doc/nurse/physio, someone said to me that you can tell that all has healed well internally when the scar turns white. So you still have inflammation which is the body's healing process going on (just the way it is)

To help body and ensure the best outcome with no build up of scar tissue internally/rigid scar! Take Serrapeptase

Google Robert Redfern Good Health Naturally for info on Serrapeptase and post op/scar tissue/

Serrapeptase is an enzyme that disolves fibrin/scar tissue/cleans blood of excess fibrin/ stops blood cells clumping/ and has anti inflammatory action. So even if you didn't have an issue, there are lots of reasons to take post op to help heal or for other health issues.

You can email Robert Redfern on the Good Health Naturally site for advice and info. The site sells Serrapeptase but many othe sites do too.

If you have not heard of it, well that's the UK for you. The medical system in Germany has been prescribing for 20-30yrs. Arabic Countries/othe European countries. Especially Japan use of for probably millennia.

Enzyme that silk worm produces to disolve it's way way out of it's protective fibrin cocoon. Now created commercially by growing on a medium - so no silk worms abused :)

Also, consider supporting your microbiome, your 2lb of microorganisms /your little gut bugs that positively or negatively control your health and healing.

Incase you are not well informed about your microbiome and how they control your gene expression, your health, your thoughts, your cravings, everything about you. Only recently acknowledged by science in the last 10yrs following the completion of the human genome project where they discovered that we have approx 22000 genes the same number as an earth worm! something not right there! Seems it's the number of cells of our microbiome that outnumber our human ones 10:1 and our genes by 100:1 So basically they have a lot of influence over our function and we/our cells have evolved to rely and work symbiotically with. We cannot live without.

But you have recently had an op so had anaethesia and no doubt antibiotics. Pretty much kill off the more vulnerable beneficial bacteria and throw your microbiome out of balance so leaving your function being ruled by the bad guys. So you need to take lots of different types of good probiotics. Prescript Assist (amazon) Biokult Red 23 website. Interchange each time buy a new lot. Take for months to rebalance, for ever if take meds or on contraceptive pill.

If you want to know more about the microbiome and it's effect on your health. The microbiome summit just happens to be on now at this moment - over a few days, interviews from the leading field of experts. Just google microbiome summit 2 register your email and you are sent interview links for free to listen to if you want. each interview on air for 24hrs. Then replaced by the next days. Learn more and make your own mind up.

Most of our UK doctors are ignorant of as can't prescibe probiotics, so no salesman , no incentives so no surprise there. But most universities have research programmes. I studied, taking a course on at Uni. Science Now the Radio 4 programme have featured scientist interviews on for years. There is the Human Microbiome Gut project UK a branch of the US/World Human Microbiome/ Gut Project.

Take probiotics if you want to regain your health

I've had 3 thyroid ops and not one slightest bit of discomfort, except it made me a bit sick when they withdrew the metal clasp (not stitches) for the partial op in 1989.

If you still have discomfort so long after op then there must be something wrong and you should be demanding some action to establish the cause of the problem

Thank you everyone, I am waiting on a new appointment with GP to try and force a referral back to the hospital. All I seem to be doing since my thyroid issues started is fight the NHS, its such a shame Tyroid problems are not taken seriously 😓
