Reducing 100mg to 50mg

Any advice, I've been in 100mg for about a year, advised to cut to 50mg, 2 weeks in and exhausted and putting on weight, and fuzzy head... my glands were slightly enlarged.

Just doesn't seem worth it as it clearly works , any thoughts please.😀

Jonath,

I presume you mean Levothyroxine has been reduced from 100mcg to 50mcg? Did you ask your GP why? Dose adjustments are usually in 25mcg increments so halving your dose was a big reduction. Do you have a copy of your recent thyroid results and ranges you can post?

Hi, I'll update these later when I'm at home, my specialist said I don't need to be in any medication, so to wean myself off, it's the tiredness and dizzy head that is so frustrating, and back to drinking coke to stay alert.

Jonath,

Post the results and ranges in a new question for comment and if you know what your TSH and other results were when you were first diagnosed post them too.

It's quite a large drop, i.e. half of your dose reduced which may be why you're struggling at present. As Clutter has suggested if you can post your latest results with ranges on a new post for comments.

Why would your doctor think you didn't need levothyroxine? Did you have blood tests that your doctor has interpreted as being over medicated? It would be very unusual for a dose to be halved, normally small reductions and then repeat bloods after 6-8 weeks and then another adjustment if necessary. As Clutter and Shaws have suggested post your blood results with any further background info for further advice.

OK so if its not your thyroid - have you had your levels of B12 - Ferritin - Folate - VitD checked - as they all need to be OPTIMAL for you to feel well.

What other meds are you taking ? Nothing on your Profile :-)

I have a horrible feeling he has freaked out at your TSH result. In which case he hasn't a clue. I would hold fire at the moment but repose your results asap for more accurate guidance. If you aren't happy doing that then alternate your present dose with 75 mcg till we sea your actual figures and can make an informed suggestion.
