Hi guys,

Can illnesses (common cold, sickness bug etc) effect results?

Thanks

Vanessa09,

A non-thyroidal illness can elevate TSH which is why the first abnormal TSH result may be ignored and the patient asked to retest in 2-3 months when the virus or illness would be expected to have resolved.

Thought so. Just wanted to double check. Munchkin is unwell and due bloods on Monday, hopefully she'll be over it by then, if not it'll be put back a couple of days!

Thankyou

Xx

Vanessa09,

Not sure it will make much difference to a blood test if your child is taking Levothyroxine but it won't hurt to wait a few days.
