Hello. A friend of mine knows I have Hypothyroidism so asked about symptoms. She has the chronic fatigue, brain fog, and weight gain, but also feels constantly nauseous. Her TSH is 0.88 (range 0.3 to 4.2) and T4 is 15.5 (12 to 22). Could she have Hypothyroidism?

Get her to test Folate,feretin, B12 and vitamin D any deficiencies in these will give her those symptoms too.
Not sure she's hypo.
Feel very sorry for your friend, constant nausea is awful. I know I had it and have it. I have Hashimotos but it has been suggested that I have a problem with the adrenals which causes nausea. I was put on an anti depressant about 15 months ago and told it was depression and anxiety but I wasn't depressed although anxious. I think it masked the problem for several months. I tried a very low dose of NDT only 1/4 grain and by the fourth day yesterday felt horrendous and nauseous, sweaty and racing heart. I took a mirtazapine last night and felt okay when I got up at 8 but now this awful nausea has returned two hours later. I hope your friend can get to the bottom of it. I am now at a loss what to do next. I do have hyperparathyroidism and if the calcium gets too high in the blood in can cause nausea.
Elaine2447, adrenal problems are notorious for giving people a reaction to thyroid hormone similar to what you describe - an over active-type feeling. You may have success with treating your adrenals first. The first step is to privately get a saliva cortisol test, to confirm where you are. Unfortunately the NHS do not recognize this problem, so you have to go it alone (unless you have the very extreme Addisons or Cushings syndrome).
SilverAvocado, many thanks for your response. I had been out all day as I had to go and see my daughter even though I didn't feel well so I left off the NDT today anyway. I think you are right about adrenals. I am not quite sure where to get the saliva cortisol test but will look on Blue Horizon and Medichecks. The strange thing is that on the third day I took the 1/4 grain I felt more like my old self but was on the 4th day (yesterday) I felt really weird, anxious, and a bit nauseous and felt I wanted to keep going to the toilet. I might give it another try in the morning as I am not going out for the rest of the week but I don't think it was a coincidence. I had 13 weeks solid back in August to November 2015, of racing heart, nausea, trembling and no sleep at all. I ended up in a heap in the end and collapsed and was immediately put on mirtazapine. I kept telling them I felt there was something physically wrong with me but they ignored it. Sadly in my state of stupor I tripped down the stairs and had terrible backache for all these months and only last month they decided to x-ray and found I have a compression fracture at T5. I had already broken my wrist the previous year when it was found that I have severe osteoporosis. In view of those horrendous weeks, just the mere hint of nausea and go into a bit of a panic thinking it won't go away. So you can imagine I am pretty fed up generally and since mid 2015 I have spent over £6,000 of my savings on private endocrinologists and sought the advice of an endocrinology surgeon about my parathyroid and I am virtually back where I started but found a local Functional Medicine practitioner who is also a gp where I got the ndt prescription from.

Thanks I have just arrived on that page but it looked complicated. I wonder if its possible to get the results so that I can give them to this functional medicine lady to avoid paying out more for the consultation that was mentioned. I am fast running out of money!
They aren't cheap are they, just found the thyroid-adrenal one is £160 direct from the website but don't know what the code is worth. Will have to look into it tomorrow, should get to bed really. Thanks again.
