Hi I have my first ever results for thyroid testing ...I need help as I know it's a tricky area with GPS..my TSH is.36 range is .35/5.my ft4 is 17.9 the range is 9/20.much appreciated..
Newbie need help please: Hi I have my first ever... - Thyroid UK
Newbie need help please
Both of those results are really good. Did doctor test your T3, B12 and ferritin?
Paulina69 There's no information in your profile and no clue in your post as to what your situation is. Are you diagnosed hypo and treated and looking for guidance on whether your dose of Levo is sufficient? Or are you symptomatic and looking for a diagnosis?
Your results are actually excellent but in what context??
Oh symptoms are weakness panicky heart Palpitations..basically went to a ent specialist unrelated to thyroid and he looked at me and suggested to get a check as I was so on edge and heart was going crazy and he suggested to get tested..The reason I'm asking is I have been informed.it's where you.are at in the range ..so I spose I was looking at the tsh being so close to the lower end ..thankyou for replying..
I think I've documented this wrong ..told u newbie ..I'm. 36 not.3.36
You have put .36 in your first post, not 3.36
Are you now saying your TSH is 36?
Can you clarify exactly what your TSH is please, it's confusing because you are putting decimal points/full stops in where they shouldn't be.
I'm so sorry the result paper says 0.36 ...
O.36 basically the so called normal starting range is 0.35 which is why I came.for advice.on here ..ty for.your patience
So your results are
TSH: 0.36 (0.35-5.0)
FT4: 17.9 (9.0-20.0)
In which case it's possible, with the TSH so low, that you are bordering on HypERthyroidism but you'd expect to see FT4 right at the top or over it's range. Your panicky heart, palpitations and being on edge could be pointing to hypER as well.

You could ask your GP to test antibodies.
Phew ..you confirmed what I was thinking ..so should I still ask for Ft3
You could but I don't know if they will definitely do it. It could be at the top of the range which again would fit in with hypER.
Oh ..but my understanding is that it's important to have figs of this as it's the ft4 conversation into t3 that's a good indicator5 to the thyroid jigsaw..for what reason won't they do this ...Is it because Dr's just don't really offer this? Or is it because I'm possibly borderline?
FT3 is rarely done unless something is drastically wrong with TSH and/or FT4. GPs do sometimes ask for it but it's usually the lab that makes the decision as to whether it's carried out. Sometimes even endo requests are ignored.
When wanting to know if conversion is good then yes both FT4 and FT3 need to be carried out at the same time, but GPs generally aren't all that knowledgeable about conversion and are TSH fixated.
Knowing if good conversion is taking place when hypOthyroid and still symptomatic is very useful. I don't know if it's important when hypERthyroid
Ahhhh..ok .one last thing the autoimmune test you advised me to ask for will determine what exactly ?
I deleted that reply immediately because it was no longer appropriate when you confirmed your actual TSH result which pointed to hypERthyroidism rather than hypOthyroidism.
Have a read through Thyroid UK's article on antibodies and you will see that Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin or TSI Antibodies are the ones that can be present in hypERthyroidism as they stimulate the thyroid to be over active (Graves Disease). Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) antibodies are sometimes present in Graves as well.

You might want to ask your GP about getting these tested, although I'm not sure if they can be done in Primary Care, you may need to be referred to an endo.
