So I had a partial thyroidectomy about 7 months ago. But for some reason every once in awhile I choke on liquids, and when I do this big air bubble blocks my air way and is nearly impossible to get out it seems. When I do get it out, my air way closes so tight I can barely breathe in at all so I just keep choking. Well tonight I started choking when I was driving and I couldn't breathe for at least a minute and a half, and when I was able to breathe a little but my throat still felt like it was trying to close. Like it was spasming ad little bit not allowing air to get through. It this dangerous? Or does anyone else have this same thing happen to them?

Air bubble after drinking liquids.
Briebailey,
I think you should see your GP. I don't know whether it is dangerous or not but it is clearly dangerous to be choking and struggling to breathe when you are driving.
Hi, I am "undiagnosed", but convinced I have underactive thyroid as I have all the symptoms, and throat is always swollen. Am seeing my Doctor again tomorrow to discuss. I have had the same problem lately struggling with liquids and choking on them every so often, which is not normal for me, but not to that degree. Definitely not normal for anyone! Best consult your GP/Surgeon. Better to be safe than sorry.
You should see your GP - if you have swallowed large gulps of hot drinks or cold drinks
there will be more air in your oesophagus - it may be an after effect of your op.
Using a drinking straw will help you control the amount of fluid you are drinking.
